are any of the SNPs in these two panels (the Yasko and the Genova

detox) the same SNPs that Vernon identified in her studies?

also, do you need to have a DR order the SNP tests and are they from a

blood sample or can we order them on our own?

Hi, Bill.

If you are referring to the collaborative studies done by the CDC

with others and announced at the press conference last April, then,

yes. COMT SNPs were found to be significant in CFS by Goertzel et

al. MAO A SNPs were found to be signficant in two of the subsets of

PWCs defined by et al. A separate study published in 2003 by

Gursoy et al. in Turkey found that COMT SNPs were significantly more

frequent in fibromyalgia. Unfortunately, most of the SNPs on the

Yasko panel and on the Genovations Detoxigenomic panel have not been

studied yet (or at least not published yet) by the CFS researchers.

I expect that quite a few of them will turn out to be significant,

but we will have to wait to see about that.

Both the Detoxigenomic and the Yasko panels look for some COMT

polymorphisms, but the Yasko panl looks at more different ones.

The Yasko panel looks for one MAO A polymorphism.

A doctor's order is not needed for the Yasko panel, and you can

prepare the samples yourself at home. They are mouth swabs and

blood spots from finger pricks.

A doctor's order is needed for the Detoxigenomic panel. That one

requires a 9 ml blood sample drawn into an EDTA tube.
