My dentist told me he could not tell whether there was mercury, under my

crowns, unless he took them all off..now, if this is wrong, I WANT TO KNOW.

He's right. X-rays won't show them. I've been told this by 3 dentists. I too

wanted to know for sure.

Hi, Amelia, Edy and all.

It's true that standard shadow X ray radiographs as used in

dentistry won't distinguish between gold and mercury.

There's an analytical technique that I think could do that, called X-

ray fluorescence analysis, but I doubt if this has been applied to

this problem, approved for human use, etc. The way it works is you

irradiate with a spectrum of X rays, as in a standard X-ray machine,

and then you look for characteristic X rays that are emitted by the

metals when the original X rays knock inner shell electrons out of

their orbits and other electrons drop back into them. There would

be a background from the fluorescence X-rays emitted by the gold,

but since mercury has a higher atomic number, its characteristic X

ray energies are higher than those of gold, and I suspect that the

mercury could be detected using a high-resolution detector.

I haven't had any done under my crowns. Just the ones that were showing.

you think?

Hi,

There certainly can be mercury under crowns, unless there was an

effort made to remve it. I had full mouth restoration done 11 years

ago and 13 or so crowns were removed and replaced. About half of the

crowns had amalgam under them. The dentist heated up the gold crowns

that were removed and then somehow read the mercury output, and they

in fact contained mercury. I guess this is becuse of the affinity

between gold and mercury. So in effect the gold crowns were outgassing

mercury.

Rich is a retired scientist and I'm beginning to think he has

genius-level intelligence. He also is a giver by nature and for

whatever reason has 'given' himself to the CFS community. I hope he

writes a book sooner or later because there are so many people not on

this list who could be helped. Aren't you glad you joined this list?

O.K., guys. Thanks for all the kind words. You give me a lot to

try to live up to. I just hope some of my crazy ideas pay off for

you. I really would like to see all of you get your health back.

If these things end up working out, people on this list will deserve

a lot of the credit. You've given me quite an education and an

ongoing stimulus to try to find answers. And you've been willing to

try things that I've suggested. Those who've been here a while know

that they haven't all worked so well! I do think we are getting

closer to the answers now, though.

Well, we had better get back " on topic, " or the moderators will have

to get us!
