My tools for improving serotonin are: SAM-e plus Bs and TMG or l-Tryptophan (precursor of 5-HT, 5-htp has never worked for me) or turkey, neat..... no other foods to compete with the receptor sites in the brain Intense light, preferably sunlight to reset and mainatin the critical serotonin/melatonin balance. mjh " The Basil Book " _http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/_ (http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/) _Neurotransmitter Dysfunction: Unexplained Anxiety and decreased 5-HT _ (/message/101870;_ylc=X3oDMTJxamZ\ xbDd uBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzkxNTc0BGdycHNwSWQDMTYwMDA2MTY0NQRtc2dJZAMxMDE4NzAEc 2VjA2Rtc2cEc2xrA3Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTE1MzAxOTc0Mg--) Posted by: " Doyon " _prd34@... _ (mailto:prd34@...?Subject=Re: Neurotransmitter%20Dysfunction:%20Unexplained%20Anxiety%20and%20decreased%205-HT\ ) _prd34 _ (prd34) Sat Jul 15, 2006 8:15 pm (PST) " _5-HT contents change in peripheral blood of workers exposed to microwave and high frequency radiation Zhonghua Yu Fang Yi Xue Za Zhi. 1989 Jul; 23(4):207-
Guest guest
Inositol increases second messenger signalling for serotonin, which gives the serotonin you already have more " kick. " 4-12 grams as needed, or daily, seems to work. It is a nice sweet tasting powder which can easily be used by mixing 1 tsp to 1 tbsp into a beverage or just eating it off the spoon. It lasts a long time in your body, too. Low serotonin has NOTHING TO DO WITH ANXIETY. That is low GABA activity. When you have low serotonin AND anxiety, what you really have is inadequate adrenal function. This responds very poorly to serotonin and GABA support, and quite well to adrenal support like adrenal cortex, herbals such as licorice, or glucocorticoids such as hydrocortizone. Guest guest
Blake I find this list interesting. For the past 1 1/2 years I have maintained a diet specific to serotonin/beta endorphin deficiency as suggested by Kathleen Desmaisons in her book, Sugar Addicts Total Recovery Program. The key factor in this is moderately high protein, and potatoes, one with each meal and every evening, with skin, to create a a mild insulin spike. Her research has led her to think that evening spud allows amino acids to cross the bbb, and one specific amino acid is more able then with the potato to make the needed serotonin. I am oversimplifying her ideas greatly. And it's been awhile since I've read the why's and wherefores. She has a website...www.radiantrecovery.com that may be of interest. I found prior to CPAP and FFC that the food program completely removed my cravings to eat constantly. I now maintain 3 moderately high protein meals, with only complex carbs. Have eliminated once and for all whites from my diet. I do use honey on a rare occasion. But high glycemic index foods are eliminated from the program. It's a very interesting study. I don't know if I truly fit into the description of sugar sensitive as she explains it, now that I know more about what is really going on within me. But, she provided a small piece to the complicated puzzle of my health I think. Thanks for posting that. I'd like permission from you to email it privately to a friend of mine that is currently struggling with Post Polio Syndrome. We have similar experiences with post exertion fatigue, low energy and serotonin issues.
