Guest guest
Hi Rich Rich I was taking Taurine 3 times 500 mg a day. Than I added l-methionine 375 mg a day for the last 3 or 4 days. I had very strange effect. I was almost totally bed ridden. Felt extremely exhausted. I am actually not sure if this is something good for me or bad. I thought I crashed. Symptoms were similar to crash symptoms. But I had no reason for that other than taking this extra methionine.I also had increased pulse rate. When I was taking l-methionine alone I had no problems. It had helped me with mood problems and general wellbeing.Do you have any idea on what could have happened?I am wondering what could be the reason for this .I am also taking B12,magnesium and b6. Thanks. Nil
Guest guest
Hi, Nil. Perhaps you overloaded your sulfite oxidase enzyme, so that it was not able to process all the sulfite that was being produced from breakdown of the taurine and the methionine together. I think this suggests that you might have a polymorphism in your CBS (cystathione beta synthase) enzyme, so that too much homocysteine is converted to cystathionine and goes on down to taurine and sulfite. This seems to be becoming a more widely observed phenomenon in CFS as people have started to get the Yasko panel to examine the polymorphisms in genes for enzymes that impact the methylation cycle. I would suggest that you cut back on these supplements. I don't know if it's possible for you to get the Complete Basic SNP Panel I from http://www.testing4health.com. If not, you might try a trial and error approach. See message number 102146 that I recently sent to Rosie. Rich > > Hi Rich > Rich > I was taking Taurine 3 times 500 mg a day. Guest guest
HI Rich, Maybe the answers to CFS are glutathione and also fingering out how to get it into the body when the CBS gene is present. Without it we are all suffering oxidative stress. Janet in San Diego rvankonynen <richvank@...> wrote: Hi, Nil. Guest guest
Hi, Janet. I think you're right about that, and in fact, that's the approach Dr. Yasko is using in CFS. Her emphasis is on dealing with the CBS SNP first, if present, because otherwise it looks as though the glutathione might not really come up, and some approaches to raising it directly can raise cysteine, which is already too high in people wiwith this SNP. For several years, my emphasis was on getting the glutathione in in various ways, but that didn't work for everybody. It's beginning to look as though the CBS SNP may have been at least one of the reasons. So now that I've heard about that, I've shifted my focus to be more in line with what Dr. Yasko is doing. It makes sense to me that a problem higher up in the sulfur metabolism would cause difficulties with glutathione.
