Guest guest
Celeste, (sorry this took so long to get to you, has tonsilitis and I am late getting all my mail sent out!) I think you are the only other person that told me about the face changing like no oxygen was getting there- only I think his was a circulation problem!! would turn bright red when I would turn him to the left, and it scared me! No one could ever tell me why, but my mommy instinct and limited knowledge of putting all this together, makes me think that the muscle is constricting nerve endings and circulation- this muscle (sternomastecloid??) is related to so many things in the body, balance, posture, range of motion, etc. I found massage to be extremely helpful. As he became more stretched out, he no longer turned red when having him look left. It took us from 3 months old to approx. 9 months old to say " resolved " - that is when we feel the muscle was as stretched out as can be, and only have the occassional tilt which is a direct result of a weak opposite muscle. You should definetly go for a professional pt if you have insurance, if not, you can look into a program offered in most states called Early Intervention, this is a free service and from what I'm told, torticollis is a shoo-in for treatment. They will even come to your home. You also need relief from trying stretching at home, not to mention, they have more experience on what works and what doesn't. I have walked miles in your new shoes, you are nervous because you are uninformed, and don't know what's happening and what needs to happen. Your best friend is education. Educate yourself about this condition and turn your butterflies into knowledge and you'll do just fine. Sorry I can't remember if I gave you any links or tips, please email me if you would like to discuss some techniques that worked for us. Good luck and sorry so short, catching up on work here and little time for much else at this minute! ' Mom
