It is a fine balance to try and compensate for the weather and the helmets/bands. Our orthotist also drilled holes in the band initially (it looks like a golf ball) but that didn't solve the problem. The stocking cap has worked wonders- his hair is actually dry now. Look at his pictures in the gallery (Mikey the Math Wiz) to see what he looks like with holes in the band and a stocking cap under it. Good luck. Guest guest Posted February 26, 2002 Report Share Posted February 26, 2002 , My ortho told us it would take 2 - 3 weeks. still sweated even after that time when it was hot or when she was particularly active. We just took the helmet off, wiped her down and plopped it back on. I think you are doing the right thing by giving him a break from the sweating from time to time when he needs it.
