I am in the same boat as you are. I have no artistic ability AT ALL! I used stickers at first, but those have more tendencies to stick up at the edges after wear and tear. So I found some rub-on transfers at my craft store (Do you have a s where you live?) That's where I got mine, but I'm sure you could get them at almost any craft store. However, where I got mine, they were very hidden. I had to scour the whole store before finally finding them. They are awesome because they have some cute designs, but they rub right onto the surface of the band or helmet, so they give the painted-on effect. you could paint it also, but I would be careful. I ruined my son's first helmet with paint because of my non-ability, so with this one I decided to just leave it white and just use lots of rub-ons!

Hope that helps.

They did have rub on transfers at Wal-Mart too. At our store, they

were with the scrapbooking stuff and acrylic paint. You might want

to cover them clear acrylic sealer. we tried a couple of things and

everthing started rubiing off if until we used the sealer.

Oh my goodness Kellie. You ruined the first one? So

did you have to get him a entirely new one? DId you

have to pay another $3000? OMG that is exactly what I

know will happen if I try to paint it! But the rub on

transfers sounds like a good idea. Yes I do have a

s here. I will have to go this week and pick

out some designs. Will the rub ons come off with

wear?? How do I protect against that? Thanks for the

help

No, I didn't really ruin the first one. We had an inhouse helmet made by the military, and I painted it, and it turned out really bad, so I just chipped all the paint off of it. Then he ended up only wearing it for two weeks because the military screwed us over. So now we have another one, and I haven't touched it with paint, because no matter how good my intentions are, I just don't have the gift. It ends up looking clumpy and gross, so I just used the rubons. They do eventually wear off with time, but I didn't seal mine. I think I will seal them the next time I do it, but you have to be careful what you use, because some people have reported sealer ruining the transfers. I think some people use the mod podge and that works pretty well, as well as acrylic sealer.

Good luck!

Christi:

thanks forthe suggestion of the sealer. Is that available atWalmart too? Don't use an aerosol sealer, it will shrink and/or run the rub-ons. I used acrylic VARNISH (it comes in a small tub), and it worked great! :o) I've heard that mod podge works well too, but never tried it. Good luck!

Check the sticker section while you're at 's too. There are some really awesome ones out there, and as long as the stickers aren't paper, you can use the varnish over them too (I used varnish over my paper stickers, but I had to work VERY fast, or the ink would run off the stickers! So it IS possible! ;o)

We didn't use the aerosol either. I was afraid it would get on the

inside of the band. The sealer also comes in a tube.

Hi, Christi!

I have exactly the same problem than you have. I want to redecorate my son

's band because I

put some stickers on it, but they have gone away quickly, so I wonder if I could

paint it with the

same paint that motorists use with their helmets... if only I could see some

designs!

Besides of it, in Spain it is not easy to find pens for plastic, only in red,

black and blue colors,

so there isn't much to do with this.

Tell me when you solve this and how you will do.

Hi yes as soon as I figure out what I am doing I will post some

pictures. Today I just went to the PX and bought a couple different

packs of stickers to tide me over till I figure out what to do. I am

still planning on getting some of the rub on transfers and seeing how

they work. I guess I will be testing out a lot of different things.

I dont think however that I will attempt painting it. I am too

afraid of destroying it. If you think up any ideas as well please

let me know.
