I've been puting off trying to find a doctor because i was depressed about

trying to find one who would be remotely accepting of my choices/beliefs....let

alone be supportive. But, as i have a very active, rambunctious 10 month old

who i just know is going to break, slice or injure something seriously.....i

pounded the butterflies in my stomach down to make the call to try and find a

doc who would take us on as patients. It's not that big a city, and since the

peds are mostly grouped together into 5 or 6 large groups, and i already knew i

couldnt go to any of them, i had only one real hope......i decided to call a doc

who advertises having an " alternative " health practice, although she is an MD.

I honestly expected to get into a fight/receive a lecture over the

phone....which is why i have been putting it off.....i hate being yelled at,

makes me ill, regardless of the validity of it, old childhood scars...but i

digress.....I call, fear/anxiety clawing at me..almost closing my

throat...

" Hello, Alternatives Medical center? "

....Trying to keep my voice reasonably calm and adult-sounding " Yes, i was

wanting to know a little more about your practice and if you are accepting new

patients? "

" Well, i have a family practice centering on......***in my head, I'm

thinking.. " I " .????..yep, thats right, the doctor answered the phone! anyway,

moving on**.... " centering on alternative medicine..that means i dont like to

prescribe drugs..in fact, I prefer to get people off of drugs. "

Me.. " um, great " ...hope slowly growing

" I advocate the use of dietary supplements and will recommend them to my

patients, use homeopathy, Reiki, blah, blah..(.a lot of natural medicine type

stuff.).. "

Me....hope growing but fear in my heart....... " okay, that's good. Do you accept

patients in your practice who are not vaxxing or vaxxing on an alternate

schedule? " **me gulping furiously, sweating, thinking I'm about to get yelled at

by the only person in town i have the slightest chance of using as our

doctor........

" I don't recommend vaccinating at all. " Then launches into a diatribe about

how they don't work anyway, there is poisonous stuff in them, and she will help

us with the school system to get an exemption...blah, blah, blah!!!!!!!!

YAY!!!!! We talk about some stuff for a few minutes, i explain my daughter has

*never* seen a doctor and ask about establishing a relationship with her, she

says thats since " well-baby " visits are just to vax, she doesn't do them on the

nomrla schdule, but does like to see the babies to get to know them and develop

the relationship, which is reasonable to me. She does " well-baby " visits about

every 6 months until 2, then a yearly physical after that, unless there is

concern over a serious illness or chronic problem. Since is 10 months,

she will see her next week, then that is it for about 6 months......

YAY!! I feel so happy. I wil have a doctor for the family, which just eases my

mind in case KT gets seriously ill or injures herself..she is definitely a

rough-and-tumble little girl, i can totally see broken bones in my future, lol!

Plus, someone who can help with homeopathy when/if Kt gets any illnesses, or, in

necesary cases, prescribe drugs, order tests, etc. Best of all, she is a MD..or

a " real doctor " , (as most people I know refer to MD's, as opposed to ND's or

chiros, etc)....so i don't have to worry about CPS, or relatives or

friends..since I am going to and following the recomendations of a " real

doctor " . LOL! Anyway, quite happy here....The one bummer is that she doesn't

take any insurance..i understand why of course, but hey..its money well-spent,

just for the peace of mind!! Anyway..dancing a happy jig here!!

I also called and got KT an appt for a free eye exam..we have a lot of eye

problems in my family, i am myself legally blind without corrective lenses and

monocular. In case anyone doesn't know, there is a program called " infant see "

and participating optometrists give free eye exams to babies 6-12 months. you

can search online for a participating provider in your area...i dont know about

other areas, but there were like 10 in my town. I also made a chiro appt for

KT, so all-in-all, i feel like today was just a wonderful day for us

health-wise!
