Guest guest
hair conditioner, or even better, mayonnaise, massaged into the hair and left for a few hours will kill the lice and nits. i have noticed that since we stopped using shampoo my kids have not have had even one nit, so i'm pretty sure it's a matter of getting away from the chemicals... we use either soapnut, neem powder, or borax, always followed by a rinse with some citric acid in water. cleans the hair very well, prevents flakes, nits, itchy scalp etc, and we do our bit for the environment. :-) claudia --- Anita Durney <mydurney@...> wrote: > Got a call from the school nurse. Guest guest
, I have some old Suave Conditioner that I got for 99cents ages ago. Would that work? We're just about to buzz it down to 1/2 an inch (sniff sniff). They all have such beautiful long hair. If not, I'll do the mayo.massage. Do I really need to cut their hair short? Guest guest
goodness, who said they need to have their hair cut???? yes, any conditioner will work, but if it's for long hair then you may need more than a bottle, don't be frugal with it (nor with mayo), rather use more than you think is needed than less. basically, what conditioner or mayo do is cut their air supply off which is what kills them, so make sure all the hair as well as the scalp are well covered. hth claudia --- Anita Durney <mydurney@...> wrote: > , > I have some old Suave Conditioner that I got for > 99cents ages ago. Guest guest
Tania, Thanks. I'm not even half way finished and I'm exhausted. 24 hours would be great if I really hustle. Guest guest
, Well, they didn't exactly say we SHOULD cut off his hair. Did say the lice couldn't live on very short hair (hint hint). We just finished nearly an hour long conditioner hair party. Even Henry had fun. I brought a large mirror in the bathroom for him to see all the different ways we could style his hair. Great sensory fun indeed! Do you think that will do the trick or is there something else. My husband is not thoroughly convinced this will work. I'm desperately hoping to prove him wrong. Guest guest
Tania, (I accidentally called Trish your name when responding to her..sorry Trish) I know tea tree is supressive. Maybe it's ok to use in this instance. I don't think I would be supressing the lice..........or would I? Anita " Tania A. Guest guest
see? great education at home! :-) we usually repeated the treatment a day later, just to make sure, but we never had to do it more often than that. if you have citric acid, or even any kind of vinegar ready at hand, give the hair a rinse with that after the conditioner. it'll further discourage the icky ones from returning to the hair. the short hair theory comes from the fact that it's easier to spot them. imagine a vain teenage girl with shoulder length curly hair and i'm sure you know what i mean *g*. both lice and nits CAN live on short hair just as well as they can on long hair. just for the record. *groan* anita, you made my scalp all itchy now! Guest guest
I have read that olive oil works better. You are supposed to leave it on for like 24 hours and it will smother them. -- Sara Proud Mama to Colin 12/07/99 Jack 8/07/02 -------------- Original message -------------- goodness, who said they need to have their hair cut???? yes, any conditioner will work, but if it's for long hair then you may need more than a bottle, don't be frugal with it (nor with mayo), rather use more than you think is needed than less. basically, what conditioner or mayo do is cut their air supply off which is what kills them, so make sure all the hair as well as the scalp are well covered. hth claudia --- Anita Durney <mydurney@...> wrote: > , > I have some old Suave Conditioner that I got for > 99cents ages ago. Guest guest
putting tea tree oil.. like 4-5 drops in your shampoo and conditioner bottles will help repel future lice attacks.... myself.. i would do maynaise... it works wonders.. and i have left it on till im done with the house. .then rinse out really well.. then i start combing with a licemeister comb.. then after combing for an hour or so, i pick through the hair to get out what the comb didnt.. it takes hours... i even keep a glass of hot water ready for any lice that i do find a live.. trish -- Re: RE: OT Need Help With Lice I have found that it helps to kill them off - the olive oil helps to clean out the eggs that have attached ... :-) RE: OT Need Help With Lice > > >> Got a call from the school nurse. Guest guest
I hear you. I have been itching for weeks. I figured it came from the bay. We were soaking in it quite a bit several weeks ago when it started. There were even reports of a parasite in the sea as well and certain beaches were closed because of it. I even took Henry to the ped because he had open sores all over the back of his head from scratching relentlessly and I wanted to know what could be done about the parasite. As you probably know already, NOTHING. They suggested oral stearoids, topical stearoids and dissolvable benedril. She wasn't our usual ped. I told her not to bother with the prescription for oral stear. as I wouldn't even consider giving him that. Remembering the article about ELIDEL posted awhile back, I asked asked if that was the cream she would prescibe. Much to my surprise, she told me the practice decided not to prescribe elidel anymore because of studies linking it to lymphoma and leukemia. She had another one in mind; I declined. All this for head lice that went undetected. Thank God I spared him the hard core drugs. Anita " Sheri B. " <tallchick1966@...> wrote: MY HEAD IS ITCHING TOO, LADIES!
