Ron:

I owned a 2002 Ford Escape and was very pleased with it. I bought it new, fully loaded with leather interior, sunroof and 3,500 lb. towing package for $26,000. The only shortcoming the vehicle had was wind noise at speed on the freeway, 80mph. Other than that, it was perfectly comfortable, got 23 mpg, had front and side airbags, went 0-60 in 8.0 seconds (faster than all SUV's in its class) and was fun to drive. You should be able to pick up a clean used one (XLT) for $18,000. Hope that helps. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Oh, did I say 80! Silly me, I meant 60... but of course that was only in

School Zones!

Hey Chuck, how come you are so familiar with that statute? You haven't

violated that rule before, have you?!?

a 10 pound tank of co2 let off inside the tightly closed car, overnight. From: Holly <hollyjane11@...>Subject: vehiclebird mites Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 4:44 PM

My husband wrecked our truck, and we have been using a rental car with cloth seats. It is infested. We have it covered in RP, but we may return it tomorrow, and the RP needs time to work. I do have three huge bottles of windex, so i will prob totally blast it w that tonight and let it air out all night. Any better ideas?

Hi, Holly,

Good point, Mel. Great solution. Holly, I imagine you know all this, you have taught ME so much. Just in case, though... Doe told me that if you have a beverage dealer in town you might be able to get your used CO2 tanks from them. Of course that won't help you tonight...

Again probably nothing new for you, I would just vacuum really well where you sat, you needn't worry about parts of the car where you didn't go because rental cars are usually new and are still outgassing a lot of chemicals (paint, vinyl, fabric treatments...).

When critters fall off you in an environment where there is no more food, where would they go? They will walk between the RP grains to get to mama! or daddy, as the case may be. If they succumb on the way, well, they just didn't make it, but they died trying. And some may make it unless it is Rita thick (my heroine). They are simply hungry. However, I also believe they are, to use a term that I've read that describes a trait of cat fleas and a type of mite, rat, I believe, "host specific," and here the word "host" doesn't refer to a group or population, it refers to a single mite fighter (I'm going to stop saying mite SUFFERER!)

No, here, host refers to me. Or you.

But not to Bubba over there--if he's lucky and we don't the critters homeless and supperless. In which case, Bubba watch out.

I read on a critter board years ago that rather than KILL ourselves vacuuming everything all the time, we vacuum constantly where we shed. The post, by someone who was, like I was, "living with" them, said that they had learned that for them (they didn't use RP), if they could do nothing else (total war is always preferable, but not always possible), they vacuumed extremely well out to about 3 feet all round them, or a 6 foot circle.

Bed would be a long oval, I guess :-)

Of course, that is a maintenance, not a warrior, protocol. However, my time, energy, and $ wax and wane, and with them my ability to maintain steady pressure on the enemy.

Uh oh. Got to go to bed. Night and good luck :-)
