Guest guest
My Neurologist suggested Starband or DOC Band (Cranial Tech). Does anyone know which one is better? Or are they about the same? My daughter is 5 months old and I want to move on this as quickly as possible but want some good advice about the pros or cons of either one of these bands. Guest guest
Hello: My daughter wore both the STARband made by Orthomerica & the DOCband made by Cranial Technologies. She began wearing the STARband when she was 8 mos old. She wore the STARband for nearly 3 mos with no improvement at all, the STARband actually made her head a bit worse. It dented in some of her skull on what was her good side due to incorrect pressure being applied. Our orthotist evidentally did not have good experience in treating plagio, therefore, turned her band into a cobble job. At the end of our treatment, he added some sort of a blue pad (later learned was for foot orthotics only) to the inside of her band as he tried to over-compensate by adding extra pressure to the " good side " of her pretty little head. He forewarned me that we'd see an increase of redness on her forehead as a result of the increased pressure. Abby napped with the band on after that adjustment, when she woke up, the band slipped off her head as it was sitting too high up on it from the increased pad, she also had a horrible spot on her forehead which was actually bleeding. That's when I said enough of the STARband. I then switched her into the DOCband made by Cranial Technologies. Abby rec'd her DOCband 2 wks before her 1st bday, wore the band for 4.5 mos and I am so happy to say graduated with 50-60% correction. They were wonderful. Like Marci replied to you, they treat plagio only, they go thru mos of training before they treat a child. I am still upset to this day (it's been nearly a year since she was in the STARband) that I was not smart enough to stop her treatment. Her head could be so much rounder if I would have switched earlier. If you do decide to go w/a STARband, follow Marci's advice. THOROUGHLY interview the orthotist who will be treating your daughter. Ask to see pictures of the patients he has/had treated. Do you live near a DOCband clinic? I had to drive nearly 4 hrs one way every other week for Abby's treatment, it was worth every screaming, traffic jammed (I cringe just thinking about it!) trip for her rounder head!!!!! :-). Good luck with this tough decision Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MI --- In Plagiocephaly@y..., " leannemikulsky " <leannemikulsky@c...> wrote: > My Neurologist suggested Starband or DOC Band (Cranial Tech).
