I'm getting caught up reading about roach prufe endorsed by Holly,

Rita, Joan...

Roach Prufe is just a brand name of boric acid powder correct? It

says 99% boric acid, which is the same concentration as the " Roach

Away " (brand = Enoz) boric acid powder I picked up at Walmart awhile

ago. So I'm assuming they are essentially the same products?

So if we don't have roach prufe, we can just use any boric acid,

correct?

The label for Roach Away says " Harmful if swallowed or absorbed

through the skin " . Sorry, I bet I'm pretty behind on any of the

safety discussions that may have happened on the forum already but is

it safe to touch - I'm asking esp after reading about adding the

powder in the dryer to your clothes... Thanks!

Yes, Roach Prufe is basically boric acid. The difference is in the way they make it. Roach Prufe is designed not to clump together and has 1/4 the contain empty so that it can be shoke and then distrubited as a fine powder. I tried both the boric acid and the roach prufe. Boric acid was clumped together and I couldn't get it any where.

" Roach Away " (Enoz brand, made by Willert Home Products, St Louis)

that I picked up at Walmart comes in one of those large plastic

ketchup bottle looking containers with a cone tip so you can puff it

out by squeezing the bottle. It is not clumpy and the 1 lb bottle

was around $3 I think... 99% boric acid. How come roach prufe costs

so much? It's around $10 for 1 lb, correct?

If you do use boric acid, try putting some in a mug and using a pointed tsp or grapefruit spoon.Makes precise application possible. You can literally direct a few grains only into every little nook and cranny.

Take time? Not too bad. It doesn't give the same coverage as the fogger/duster, but if you don't have one of those it is great in a pinch.

Also, those ketchup style containers are great for storing and pouring menthol crystals. You can either leave the cap off altogether or cut it off at the base of the cone.

Yet another option is suitable for menthol crystals as well, and that is parmesan cheese shakers. I dispense the menthol crystals through the half cap size hole rather than the 3 small round holes.

Finally, always avoid breathing any borate!

So are ppl here starting to switch out of DE and onto boric acid

now, but dusted/puffed the same way we do with DE? I'm trying to

stick with what works and not trying to switch around so much... but

reading what boric acid does (clings to bugs, cuts their exokeleton,

dries them up), it seems to have the same mechanically damaging

properties as DE...

Kihun, take the time to search myrtle and roache prufe and you will

find your answers on the safety of roache prufe in powder form. It

should not be applied in places where you can disturb and breathe the

dust. I only use it in the vac after cleaning up and under a few

appliances.

Just to let everyone know: I have used roach prufe in my whole

familys laundry. Yes, that includes the baby. We have never

evcountered ANY problems from using it. If you are scared of using

it, then rub it on your arm. If it doesnt make you shrivel and die in

12 hours you are probably fine.

I also poofed it all around my apartment. It doesnt kick up like

DE. It is electrostatically charged to cling to the surface that it

lands on. For the most part it stays put. Rita even uses a fan in her

bedroom, and that doesnt even kick it up.

I also think it is different from regular boric acid. I dont know

the exact logistics, but i read studies where it was studied with

many other pest control substances, and it was proven to work the

best and the longest. Also the person that i first read about using

this even states that they have never seen a boric acid product work

like this stuff, and i have to agree. I am doing very well. Have had

very little activity for the last three days. I have little to no

activity when wearing it.

I also found, read, and posted the MSDS sheet on the stuff and it

states that it is RELATIVELY safe in all aspects.

Now please note that i AM NOT ENDORSING anything. Just passing my

experience and research on. You decide for yourself. Please also note

that i have never, and never will use this on my baby, or my son.

I have noticed that it evaporates with heat. (blow dryer, hair

straightner, oven) So i poof it into the dryer after the clothes have

dried and put it on a no heat cycle. I use borax int he rinse cycle

if the laundry. And turn clothes inside out.

I don't think Roach Prufe is all that toxic, but I am not yet brave enough to add it to the dryer cycle or directly on clothing. I do use it in the wash cycle and I'm sure most of it rinses out. I did read where someone wrote in and said Corn Husker's Lotion had boric acid in it and I looked it up and sure enough it did. Also people have used it (boric acid) for eye drops (1 tsp to 1 cup hot water, dissolved) for years with no ill effects. I think the only difference in Roach Prufe and Boric Acid is that Roach Prufe adds some kind of product to make it stick to things like static electricity. You are supposed to shake the can before you use it. I did try putting borax on Neal's mattress pad and he said it was rough on his skin so don't do that anymore. Just be careful not to inhale it while you are using it and wash your hands after..

I agree with Holly. I have been using it the same way and no longer have

clothing issues.

I have been putting it in every crack and distributed it around the edge of all

rooms.I'm

even putting it IN the walls before i tape and putty them. You could drill a

small hole and

poof some in(between the studs) and patch the wall. It works! I even make a

spray with

that and 2 squirts of the ESP shampoo in a spray bottle filled the rest of the

way with

water. Great environment spray. I have bought SO many of the other boric acid

products.

IF THEY WORKED, TRUST ME, I WOULD NEVER HAVE HAD TO BUY THE ROACH PRUFE. I

have bought soooo many. This stuff works. Check to see if you have a reaction

to it...like

she said. DONT BREATHE IT. And it DOES NOT get airborne after you apply it.

if you dont

want any contact with it, pull ur carpet up and sprinkle it under the padding.

I put mine in

a salt and pepper shaker, cause it has tiny holes. I have it sprinkled

everywhere and have

no problems with it. I am gonna put a bunch of it under the house as soon as I

can.

Now, i just need to get them to do it next door because that is where ours keep

coming
