Guest guest
Kihun: I think you have a super scabies mite, sarcoptic mite, just like me. it appears that the areas that I FREQUENT, are the areas most infected. Hydrogen Peroxide is very good. and it's cheap. the mites don't like it. can you use lemon scented raid? rita says that the ingredients in it are very strong and it seems to work pretty good for me. still, when you can, use the 91% alcohol in a spray bottle. I am not sure if the windex works well enough for my mites. mel From: kihunrc <kihunshin@...>Subject: what can i use in the office that DOES NOT stink?bird mites Date: Monday, November 3, 2008, 12:02 PM Can anyone recommend a spray that I can use in the office that DOES NOT stink or at least has a mild fragrance?Unfortunately, I work in a room with 12 other people. No cubes or offices. Fortunately, I'm the only one that use the table where I'm at. Other share tables and sit right next to each other. I can just wait it out until everyone leaves for the day and spray my area.B/c this is an enclosed room, I can't use things that smell like Windex or Isopropyl Alcohol based mix.I think 3% hydrogen peroxide/witch hazel does not smell too much but do you know whether this mix is effective as a contact killer?I've already tried bifithren, nylar, and even beta cyfluthrin (had to come to the office very late on several occasions to apply these w/ a sprayer). They do not seem to work! What is it that I have! Thanks.kihun
Guest guest
I don't think I have scabies or sarcoptic mites if I'm reading the symptoms correctly. I have no red legions, no welts, no burrows or tunnels under skin. I do have tiny tiny red spots where whatever bit me is. They are not inflamed, not raised... however I do get some bites on my calf that get a little bit bumpy. Other areas of the body, they are just tiny red dots. My symptoms are not itchiness... i get the sharp pin pricks, which I consider worse! If I have scabies, I'm better off seeing a dermotologist, right? I have not been to a doctor yet. I don't think I have bird mites b/c I've never seen anything that resemble a period. I do find some tiny white lint fabric looking things or tiny black specks. These things are tiny! I'm still waiting for the 100x pocket microscope to come in so I'll know more when I get it. I've seen the lint balls on trly's website... fiber mites??? what the heck are they? Black specks, I have no clue... I can not make out what they are. > > From: kihunrc <kihunshin@...> > Subject: what can i use in the office that DOES NOT stink? > bird mites > Date: Monday, November 3, 2008, 12:02 PM > > > > > > > Can anyone recommend a spray that I can use in the office that DOES > NOT stink or at least has a mild fragrance? > > Unfortunately, I work in a room with 12 other people. Guest guest
If your office does not have carpeting, or has a thin carpet, I would recommend epsom salt solution (2 cups epsom salt dissolved in 1 pint of hot water, then put in a garden sprayer and spray your work area). Be careful not to get any epsom salt spray on your plastic floormat, the wires under your desk, or your computer, because it dries and looks like white broken glass, a real mess. I did this a few times in my office and it helped a lot with reducing the bugs in the carpet. Then I switched to Cedarcide and that worked about as well as the epsom salt, but didn't make a mess. Also, I used to vacuum my work space once a week -- I would come in early Sunday mornings to clean. myrtle > > Can anyone recommend a spray that I can use in the office that DOES > NOT stink or at least has a mild fragrance? > > Unfortunately, I work in a room with 12 other people. Guest guest
Ki, search postings for " Dustmite " and you will find where I have described how I use that with an IGR. I spray before a long weekend (careful not to spray on dark furniture or it will leave a powdery spot) and the smell is gone by the next week. kj If I haven't posted it here, you can find it at critterfiles > > > > From: kihunrc <kihunshin@> > > Subject: what can i use in the office that DOES NOT > stink? > > bird mites > > Date: Monday, November 3, 2008, 12:02 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Can anyone recommend a spray that I can use in the office that > DOES > > NOT stink or at least has a mild fragrance? > > > > Unfortunately, I work in a room with 12 other people. Guest guest
I keep harping on the Concentrated Orange Plus because it's so multi- purpose effective & so cheap. Takes very little for kill & the residual effect's lasted more than a month here. Maybe half a capful in a gallon of hot water. Sprayed my upholstered office chair with it & haven't noticed any discoloration or any mites since. I use it on walls, ceilings, floors, countertops, my computer & even add it to my bathwater. Very faint orange smell dissipates quickly & I find it pleasant. http://www.ecos.com/pages/orange.html The one at the top right of the page - the brand is Ecos - with the earth friendly logo on the bottle. Available at Ace Hardware & health food stores or through the website. They make another orange cleaner, Concentrated Orange Plus complete, but I haven't tried it yet. http://www.ecos.com/pages/opcomp.html Worth a shot. Guest guest
To Khunrc: next time you see tiny black specks try to lift them with clear scotch tape and keep until you get your microscope. That is how I was able to see the black specs were mites. Make sure they are stuck tight in the tape or you could put tape on both sides and still see them thru the microscope. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your recommendation, Bessie! I'd never heard of that but found their website with a wealth of instructions to use: http://www.tkoorange.com/index.html Says it will take away odors including skunk stink! Under Agricultural Uses they even tell how to spray poultry. Where do you buy it? What do you use if for? Guest guest
nope, no fuzzy balls for me, or black specs. my mites can barely be seen with 60x magnification. mine are canine mites, i think. not sure. yes, lots of pin prick effing hurting bites and sometimes i will see the red spot, but no tunnels for me either. this is a very bad case of mange mite, i think. hi frito... will the orange oil work for my mites? i'm tired of buying so much stuff and nothing kills mine, except bleach and raid. mel > Well, that's another one to add to the list...how many so far?? Guest guest
Hi Kihun, trying to guess what you have is a hard way to go. You should go to a Dr to have them rule out whatever they can or can't or at least tell you what they think. Ask for skin scrapings at the least. And you should try to see if whatever they prescribe helps you or not. Some people are helped by Dr's, some are not. Mine at least tried to help. I always thought the black specs were more mature mites. bob > > > > From: kihunrc <kihunshin@> > > Subject: what can i use in the office that DOES NOT > stink? > > bird mites > > Date: Monday, November 3, 2008, 12:02 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Can anyone recommend a spray that I can use in the office that > DOES > > NOT stink or at least has a mild fragrance? > > > > Unfortunately, I work in a room with 12 other people. I can't keep up with the posts anymore, only read the first line of each post usually. Guest guest
Thank you myrtle, Sue and others. I think I'll try epsom salt tonight (since it doesn't smell) and then go back on Friday evening and use Orange Plus. I'm optimistic about it since it worked so well for you Sue. The office around my desk/chair is worse than my cars and condo. I've been dreading going to the office b/c of this. kihun > > > > Can anyone recommend a spray that I can use in the office that DOES > > NOT stink or at least has a mild fragrance? > > > > Unfortunately, I work in a room with 12 other people. Guest guest
Ki I am guessing this is not your home office but your work office!? Just a thought, the epsome salt will dry white on the carpet and will be very noticeable....as well as hard to get out of the carpet....if this is your home office thats not an issue....just thought I would mention it though.....The orange guard sounds good though z

The workplace is a corporate workplace and has dark gray carpet so I'm sure epsom salt would've been very noticeable. I found a local health food store that carries Earth Friendly (ECOS) Concentrated Orange Plus cleaner so I'll pick that up tonight. I wonder what the ppl in the room will think tomorrow. I'll just play dumb The other day, I stuck my laptop bag in the car while heat treating. I had menthol crystals in it and of course they all vaporized. At work yesterday, my co-worker says, " why does it smell like Ben Gay in here? " I put the laptop bag in a plastic bag for the rest of the day ^^; > > Ki > I am guessing this is not your home office but your work office!? > Just a thought, the epsome salt will dry white on the carpet and will > be very noticeable....as well as hard to get out of the carpet....if > this is your home office thats not an issue....just thought I would > mention it though.....The orange guard sounds good though > z >
Guest guest
Kihun -- Are you sure your office chair is not infested? I had to dump two office chairs (and secretly replace them) because they got hopelessly infested. The first one I dumped was cloth, the second one was leather, but the mites crawled into the seams of the leather and infested the cushion, which was filled with cotton I think. My current chair is vinyl with a hard foam seat cushion, very uncomfortable, but it hasn't gotten infested. I keep a sheet of the thickest painters plastic on the seat and I spray the entire chair with Cedarcide every couple of weeks now. myrtle > > > > Ki > > I am guessing this is not your home office but your work office!? > > Just a thought, the epsome salt will dry white on the carpet and > will > > be very noticeable....as well as hard to get out of the carpet....if > > this is your home office thats not an issue....just thought I would > > mention it though.....The orange guard sounds good though > > z > > >
Guest guest
Myrtle, my chair and the empty chair next to me are definitely infested. I've thought of switching them out but my conscience woulnd't let me do that as I don't want other ppl sitting on them. I suppose I can somehow make the chairs useless and the janitors would dump them? I was thinking of spilling paint or something all over the fabric and of course pretend to not having anything to do with it. Any ideas? > > > > > > Ki > > > I am guessing this is not your home office but your work office!? > > > Just a thought, the epsome salt will dry white on the carpet and > > will > > > be very noticeable....as well as hard to get out of the carpet....if > > > this is your home office thats not an issue....just thought I would > > > mention it though.....The orange guard sounds good though > > > z > > > > > >
Guest guest
It is almost impossible to decontaminate a fabric chair that you use daily. Get a leather or plastic one and spray with windex daily. Also, use a high foot rest as to avoid putting your feet on the floor. Mites quickly crawl up your legs and onto your chair again. Floors in the workplace are hard to decontaminate discreetly. -requireshelp From: kihunrc <kihunshin@...>bird mites Sent: Tuesday, November 4, 2008 6:50:04 PMSubject: Re: what can i use in the office that DOES NOT stink? Guest guest
If you can get rid of one of the chairs without anyone noticing, you could dismantle it when no one is looking, then put the pieces in garbage bags and throw it away in pieces. Do you have any surveillance cameras at work? If not, you could perhaps do it very early on a Sunday morning, or stay late and do it. If someone asks what happened to the extra chair, you could just shrug and act dumb, like maybe someone borrowed it. For the remaining chair, maybe you can soak it with the epsom salt solution, and then cover it with a piece of plastic. To be blunt, the heat and humidity from your rear end is going to cause constant problems with your chair. If anyone asks about the plastic, you can say that you've developed an allergy and hypersensitivity to mites (you can tell them dust mites, since most people have heard of dust mite allergies), and that there seem to be some mites in your chair. myrtle > > > > > > > > Ki > > > > I am guessing this is not your home office but your work > office!? > > > > Just a thought, the epsome salt will dry white on the carpet > and > > > will > > > > be very noticeable....as well as hard to get out of the > carpet....if > > > > this is your home office thats not an issue....just thought I > would > > > > mention it though.....The orange guard sounds good though > > > > z > > > > > > > > > >
