's Daily Message TuesdayOctober 24, 2006A SLICE OF LIFE ADVICE

All our lives, we collect advice from people all around us. I remember the advice my father gave me many times a day. "Shut up and go to your room!" LOL! But seriously, there is some advice we are given that stays with us and helps us chart our lives. I always like to make my students think when we have our Project Me Meetings, and their recent homework was to write down the 3 best pieces of advice that they`ve ever been given. Here`s what they wrote.

"Always be kind, even if others are not, so you can always manage to look yourself in the mirror."

"Dream big and aim for the sun. And if you don`t get all the way there, that`s okay. Look how far you`ve come!"

"Don`t feel sorry for yourself more than 5 minutes a day."

"Always have a plan, a path to follow. Along the way, you may change paths, but you still have a direction to go. If you don`t have a path laid out, you won`t go anywhere."

"Believe in your gut feelings."

"Don`t let anyone tell you that you can`t do something."

"Stand by the people you love."

"Work hard, be honest and loyal, and have a sense of humor."

"Don`t dress for the job you have. Dress for the job you want to have."

"If you lend something to someone, act as if you gave it to them. Then if they fail to return it, you won`t have any hard feelings about it."

"Never go to bed angry at someone. You don`t want that to be the last memory you have of each other if something happens to one of you."

"Learn to be self-reliant, for you only have yourself."

"The only thing you can control is your own reactions."

"Do something every day that scares you."

"Don`t have children."

"Things happen as they are meant to. There is no such thing as coincidence."

"Keep your word."

"Know yourself before you ever get married, and respect your elders."

What advice did you get when you were a youngin`? Do you remember who gave it to you? Did you take their advice? Did it help? Besides my father advising me to keep quiet and find my way to my room, he also gave me a good slice of life advice.

"Know no strangers. We are all part of God`s family. When you meet someone new, act as if you`ve met that person before and be kind to them."

Thanks, Leonard.

Love,
