's Daily Message ThursdayOctober 12, 2006A TOWER OF CULINARY LOVE

Hey! I`m in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Where are you? Tonight I`ll be at the Ridgefield Playhouse doing what I do best! People often ask me, "Aren`t you tired of traveling and teaching?" I say, "Are you kidding? I can`t wait to hop on a plane and meet new people who I hopefully will inspire!" The only trouble I have is being tempted by the room service menu, and the meal that tempts me the most is breakfast!

I was raised in a household where breakfast was an event. Growing up, my dad did most of the cooking. I loved to sit in the kitchen and watch him do his magic, and all the while, he would explain to me what he was doing. It as like growing up with Graham Kerr!

I remember the first time he made Eggs Benedict. In one pan, Leonard had these circular slices of Canadian bacon frying. In another pan, the eggs were poaching. The third pan on the stove was filled with homemade Hollandaise sauce. In the toaster were the English muffins, getting toasty and crisp. When everything was ready, my dad assembled this historic dish. First, he put a half an English muffin on the plate. Then came the slice of Canadian bacon and a poached egg. To top it off was a generous amount of Hollandaise sauce that ran down the sides of this creation.

Well, last night when I got in, I looked at the room service menu to see what I would have in the morning, and there, listed under favorites, was Eggs Benedict. I actually started to salivate, and I have to tell you, there was a moment there when I thought about ordering the eggs. But instead, I closed my eyes and saw my father in the kitchen with all those pots and pans going. I saw him putting together the "Tower of Culinary Love." I saw him slowly pour in the Hollandaise sauce that flooded the plate. And I saw ME, eating every bit of it. When I opened my eyes, I was full! LOL!

This morning I will have a small fruit plate, a yogurt, half a bagel with fat free cream cheese, my vitamins, and water. I wonder if they could sneak me up a pitcher of Hollandaise sauce…. Just kidding! Have a healthy breakfast today and every day!

Love,
