ONE OF A KIND

I asked my class the other day the definition of the word " individualism, "

and here are their words.

" Being as unique as your own fingerprint. "

" Following your own style and not just doing the same thing as everyone else

for the sake of fitting in. "

" To be one, to be unlike anyone else. To do what you want without the

influences of others. "

" To be yourself and follow your own path. To strike out on your own. "

" What sets you apart from the rest of the crowd. "

" Individualism is the full development of the human being – personality,

body, mind, work, play, talents, and interests. "

Thank you, class! Now that you know what this word means, I have a question

for all of you who are reading this today. Do you practice your

individuality or question it? I have always been the individual I am, even

as a kid. I`d walk into a room with a smile and a song! I always had to say

hello to everyone and spread some cheer wherever I went. I always liked to

look my best and just be me.

When I came to Los Angeles and opened Slimmons, I always dreamed of doing an

exercise video in my own fun and individual way. I told a few people about

my idea, and one person said to me, " Your look is all wrong – the hair, the

outfit, and your top of the ballpark personality. Dream on, but you are too

different and will never be accepted. " Whew… that was a tough little speech

that I certainly wasn`t ready for. I went home and looked in the full-length

mirror in my bathroom, and for one tiny second, I believed him. But then I

stared back at my reflection and said, " He is all wrong! I am who I am, and

I`m proud of who I am! " And boy, was he wrong! LOL!

You, too, should be proud of who you are and the individual you`ve become.

You know, there`s an old saying my mom used to tell me. " Honey, when you

were born, God broke the mold. " And the mold was broken when you were born,

too.

Be the one of a kind person you were meant to be, for all the world to enjoy

and see… including me!

Love,
