ATTACK OF THE SILVER FORK

I am not one to eat out very much, but I went out for dinner a few times this week to celebrate my birthday. The reason I stay clear of restaurants is because I upset some people when I walk in. I mean, there you are with your lobster tail, mound of fried potatoes and onion rings, and I walk in. You should see some of the faces I see when I walk to my table!

The restaurants I visited, I know well because I`ve been eating at these places for over 25 years. They always seat me at a corner table in the back so I`m out of the way. After I ordered my dinner, I could hear the buzz in the room. “What did order?” Eating under a microscope is no fun, but being in the corner, I had the entire view of the room.

I let my eyes wander, and what I saw was not very pretty. I witnessed the ATTACK OF THE SILVER FORK! It looked like I was watching an eating contest! The fork to mouth action was rather rapid. Why is everyone in such a hurry to eat their meals? If you are one of the fastest eaters in the west, I recommend you slow down and smell the pot roast!

You have to understand that your food is going nowhere, and neither are you! Pick up your fork and put some food on it. It`s a fork now, not a fork lift! Don`t overload your fork. After you put the food in your mouth, put the fork down, chew, and enjoy. Chew well so you don`t choke to death on your food as it cascades down your throat. When you are ready for another bite, pick up the fork and repeat. Many people who eat fast end up with acid reflux and other digestive problems!

Don`t forget the importance of drinking water during your meal. Yes, pure water, not water mixed with chemicals and sugar. And didn`t your mother tell you not to talk with your mouth full? I`m sure she did!

If you`re going out for dinner this evening, watch the speed of how some people eat. That should help pace your silver fork.

Love,
