CONVERSATION WITH MR. SNOW

At 12:00 noon yesterday, I sat in front of my phone because I had a 12:15 appointment to talk to Mr. Tony Snow, Press Secretary of President W. Bush. At 12:15, the phone rang, and it was , Mr. Snow`s assistant. She told me that Mr. Snow was still in a meeting with the President, and it was running a little long. She said he would call me in about 15 minutes, so I stayed by the phone and waited for the call back.

The phone did ring, but Mr. Snow was still with the President. I said, "Hey, I don`t mind waiting." Now it was 12:45, and I was getting a little thirsty, so I went up to the kitchen and had a glass of cold water. The phone rang again. I guess the President had a lot to say! So I said, "That`s okay. I`ll wait!"

At 1:15, I headed up to the gym, and I began my workout. Just then the phone rang, and I heard, "Hey. It`s Tony Snow. How are you, ?" I said, "Fine!" He told me that he thinks I do a great job helping Americans get fit. I told him I was deeply concerned by the poor state of the health of our nation`s children. I told him our kids have more medical and mental problems now than ever before! With the "no child left behind" law, we have made great efforts with our children`s minds, but we have left their bodies behind.

I told him I`d become involved with the National School Board Association, and I was working on some of my ideas with them. He said to me, ", what happened to PE in schools?" I told him most schools don`t have PE because of money, space, and time on the curriculum. I told him PE needed to be restructured to include all children. I told him I would use my voice and passion to restore Physical Education in all schools.

I told him I have many ideas on how to get our kids more fit. I told him I would like to talk to the President about how to do this. I told Mr. Snow I was willing to be the leader for this cause to reignite the President`s Council on Physical Fitness.

After I finished my speech that Anne C. helped me with, he said, ", I think you`re right. I want you to send me a copy of what you wrote me, and I will talk to the President about this." He told me the President is a big fitness man and would listen to this! He gave me his email address and phone number so I could stay in touch, and believe me, I will!

I am so excited, I`m about to burst! Thank you all for your prayers and wishes, and I`ll keep you in the loop with the scoop from the White House! Thanks for believing in me. That`s how I do the things that I do, knowing you`re in my corner.
