Guest guest
Bonnie, It sounds like you had a GREAT time and you did GREAT with your food. Congratulations! I've never been much for the rides - I'll do the Ferris wheel, under protest. I don't even try the others. When I went to Universal Studios on my trip to LA a couple weeks ago, the tour bus dropped me off at 1:30, and didn't come back until 6. I did the studio tram tour (about an hour) and then had to stay cool, hydrated for another 3+ hours. Lots of walking, lots of water, but I was so exhausted/hot/wobbly on my feet by the time I got back to the hotel. The frozen banana sounds wonderful. It is so hard to find anything healthy in that environment. I did share a deep-fried Snickers bar with someone at a restaurant about 6 months ago. Two bites of that was enough for me. As they used to say, "gag me with a spoon." It's the start of a new week and I'm eating breakfast. If I can get into the habit of breakfast, journalling and water, the rest of the battle will be fairly easy. This morning, I am having a white nectarine, banana, bagel and string cheese. The string cheese might not be the healthiest thing, but it's not bad, and for me, portion control with cheese is really key. I "forget" what 1 oz of cheese looks like when I'm slicing pieces off a brick (grin). Hope everyone has a wonderful day, and stay hydrated. We figured the boys would last about anhour in the heat, but we wound up staying for over 4 hours. And myused-to-be-terribly-timid 5 year old was Mr. Brave and went on everyride he was allowed at his height! He even climbed up that two storyhigh slide (where you ride down on a potato sack). I have a feelingthat within a year or two this old body's going to have to getreaquainted (sp?) with the roller coasters. Anyway, nothing butjunk food at the fair, and here's where my victory came in. I had onefrozen banana (chocolate covered, but still...not a deep friedtwinkie!) and lots and lots of water. I burned pretty bad (for me) onmy arms and neck, but nothing compared to !My mom got the kids a gigantic bag of cotton candy and proceeded tohelp them eat it, but I didn't have any. And I passed up theslushies, shaved ice, the elephant ear my mom had, and I even passedon the fried snickers that she also had and offered to split with me.Am I the only one that finds the thought of deep frying foods thatare ALREADY bad for you just wrong?! Seriously, that's a heart attackon a stick. Yuck.Other small victories--I stood the entire time and didn't need to sitat all. I went on two rides with Connor (OMG, can't do thetilt-a-whirl anymore, almost threw up), and actually fit into them. And up until about an hour from when we left, the heat didn't botherme at all (this is a HUGE switch for me)...I think we were all on theverge of heat stroke or perhaps a more mild form. Guest guest
> Saturday morning my mom and I took the boys to the 4H fair up by her We don't have anything like this around here. In fact, all our 4H does is help teenaged mothers raise their babies - no animals, no home ec, and all that stuff for the masses. A few weeks ago we *did* have the " NJ State Fair* held in the parking lot of Giant's Stadium. Someone on our city's message board wrote that her & her husband tried to go, and even though it's only 12 miles away, they were stuck in traffic 3 hours before getting close enough to an exit and turned around and came back home. Only 2 of the churches in our city hold carnivals - one in April, the other in August. Both have rides for the kiddies, plenty of games of chance, and one or 2 food stands. One of these we haven't been to since Henry was about age 6, the other we last went to when we lived in the apartment complex across the street from it, and we moved out of *there* almost 15 years ago. Since the carnivals are in the churches' parking lots, there's no place to park a car if you go except in the neighborhood maybe a few blocks away at a metered space, so we just don't go. > I have a feeling > that within a year or two this old body's going to have to get > reaquainted (sp?) with the roller coasters. I never liked rides as a kid, and I was so happy that Henry didn't either. Even now, as a yong adult, when his friends invite him to places like 6 Flags he turns them down. He went once, back in freshman year, and wound up holding everyone's junk for them when they went on the rides. He vowed then never to go again. >And I passed up the slushies, shaved ice, the elephant ear my mom had, I used to get a small Italian ice and nursed it for the whole visit. After it melted beyond recognition I always had a bottle of water on me and would just go into the school and refill it from the water fountain. > Am I the only one that finds the thought of deep frying foods that > are ALREADY bad for you just wrong?! Seriously, that's a heart attack > on a stick. Yuck. Ed didn't believe that people actually do that - deep fry all kinds of crap. It wasn't until we were flipping through the channels on tv one day and some one - maybe a Deen - was busy deep frying everything that wasn't moving. > Other small victories--I stood the entire time and didn't need to sit > at all. I would at least have to lean against a wall now and then, as my arthritis feet would definitely need the rest. > And up until about an hour from when we left, the heat didn't bother > me at all (this is a HUGE switch for me)...I think we were all on the > verge of heat stroke or perhaps a more mild form. That's how all of us were at the laundromat this morning. So many of us that usually hit the place around 8 - 9am were there as early as 6am today, and we all kept guzzling down our bottled water and going outside for fresh air, as they air conditioners were off and all they had were about half the ceiling fans going in all different directions. I was so glad when my dryers were buzzing and I could get the heck out of there! When I got in I had to strip naked and shower again, as everything was soaked to the skin. Guest guest
> I've never been much for the rides - I'll do the Ferris wheel, under > protest. Not me! I get sick just looking out my third floor apartment's windows! And the regular rides always gave me motion sickness. My mom always gave me Dramamine before we headed to our local amusement park when we were kids (no longer there) because just *watching* the roller coaster and tilt a whirl used to make me sick. > The frozen banana sounds wonderful. The string cheese might not be the healthiest thing, but > it's not bad, and for me, portion control with cheese is really key. String cheese is an excellent high protein snack and is one of the recommended foods for those with diabetes, hypoglycemia, or just on a low-carb food plan for between meals. I > " forget " what 1 oz of cheese looks like when I'm slicing pieces off a brick > (grin). Yeah, 1 inch by 1 inch really isn't that big at all. > Hope everyone has a wonderful day, and stay hydrated. I'm already working on my third 24-ounce glass of water since getting back home. I dread going back out there (88º and not quite 11am yet) but I do have a few more stops to make, and tomorrow is supposed to be just as bad as today. Thats great! Like you said its hard to get good food at a fair. And expensive!!!! A lot of the time we tell them the fair is a place to play and do the games then we'll go out to eat when we are done. It saves money:) And any burn is bad...... Better stay salved up. I put on the aloe vera cream quite often thoughout the day and mine is a whole lot better. My blisters are small now but still draining. But I slept decent last night. The most trouble i have right now is getting my shirt on and off as it still hurts quite bad to move my arms especailly in a over the head motion.Yesterday I considered locking the doors and just going topless:) But thank goodness it feels somewhat better. > > My mom got the kids a gigantic bag of cotton candy and proceeded to > help them eat it, but I didn't have any. I'm trying to break that habit and I'm doing pretty good at it but I still look wishfully at those greasy laded bags that look like the food is gonna fall out the bottom of it as I know they hold something good in them. LOL. > Other small victories--I stood the entire time and didn't need to sit > at all. I can be inside and it be extremly hot and not bother me too much but the sun just does me in.Everyone needs to be careful in this heat. I've now shifted most of my calories to earlier in the day and now that I'm used to it, it's helped a lot. I hope you find the same true with eating breakfast. And I don't think there's anything wrong with string cheese. Like you said, it's all about portion control. Cheese is hard for me to stop eating, so I tend to limit it to salads and sandwiches. How's the weather out in Oregon? I used to live in Eugene Beautiful state, especially the coast...ever been to the sea lion caves? That was amazing...would love to take the kids there someday. -Bonnie

Not a chance would I sit through that kind of traffic. Reminds me of the time my family was out visiting us in Omaha one summer so we decided to go to the zoo. My dad asked where the College World Series was (as in, the location of the stadium to the zoo) and I said, " I dunno, I think we'll be fine. " Um, yeah. If I had just ONCE paid attention, the zoo is in the backyard of the stadium. 2 hours later we get within a mile and my (then) 1.5 year old son was screaming bloody murder to get out of his carseat. *sigh* > Ed didn't believe that people actually do that - deep fry all kinds of crap. > It wasn't until we were flipping through the channels on tv one day and some > one - maybe a Deen - was busy deep frying everything that wasn't moving. Oh my gosh, this heat is something else. I had developed a headache, was starting to feel really sick to my stomach, and very dizzy. The boys were getting wobbly while walking, but were still begging to stay. I finally had to put my foot down and tell them I was going to pass out if I stayed much longer. And I really do think I would have. I felt better after resting at my mom's and drinking loads more water. -Bonnie

She maybe needs some mental help:) But thats ok....I'm willing to accept you as you are. Crazy mind and all. > You take care of yourself, . And not just the burn, but the > lump, too. Thanks for your concern:) sent though some links and I got to reading on it and I'm thinking maybe I'm letting fear grab a hold on me. I'm gonna keep a eye on it and see if it changes shapes, grows or go away. From what I am reading they say most of these are cysts. If it dosent do anything by the time I go back in for my exam I will have them check it out good for me. If I get worried too much or things change I will try and get in sooner. I'm just playing it by ear right now. I've read this could even be caused by shaving. So I'm gonna give it some time to see how it will change and go from there. I only have 4 months till my next exam and if I feel the need I will ask them to move it up some.
