SINGLE PARENTS` SORROW

After teaching class last Saturday, I played with my babies a while and then

spent a few hours pulling up my email. Two emails from single parents who

were going through some unhappy times stood out.

Stuart from Florida has been divorced from his wife for 6 years and has full

custody of their daughter, who is now 15. Stuart had put on 80 pounds since

the divorce and just felt miserable. Last year, his daughter got mixed up

with the wrong crowd and got hooked on several party drugs. While she was in

rehab for 4 months, Stuart put on another 50. I called him, and he just fell

apart on the phone. He told me his daughter is doing much better and is

home! He also told me he was fed up with his weight of 320 pounds and felt

so out of touch with himself. He asked me how he could get started again.

Dorothy from Montana came home one day to find a note from her husband that

said he didn`t want to be married anymore, and he was just going to

disappear. And that he did. Dorothy has been raising her daughter alone for

12 years. Since he left, this 18-year-old girl has been covering her sadness

by eating, and she now weighs 240. I called Dorothy, and by chance, her

daughter was visiting. The 3 of us chatted a while. Dorothy asked how she

could get started to lose 100 pounds. Before I answered her, I told them of

a gentleman I just talked to who is a single parent and struggling, too. I

asked if they both would talk to him.

When they said yes, I called Stuart again and asked if he wanted to talk to

Dorothy and her daughter. When he said yes, I conferenced them both in and

WOW! So many good things came from this conversation! They talked nonstop

for about 20 minutes, and then I chimed in with my suggestions about eating

healthy and exercising. I sent them a copy of my " Lighten Up " program that I

send to people that I talk to on my radio show, and I told them to come

visit me on the Website. I do hope I hear from them again. Have I heard from

you lately?
