HOW TO GET TO THEM

Last week, I was taking a walk in the neighborhood and met a gentleman who

was taking a stroll, too. " You`re ! Hi, my name is ,

and my family and I just moved into our new home 6 months ago. " I travel so

much, I really don`t know most of my neighbors. Believe it or not, I live on

a very quiet street.

started talking, and he told me he has a 12-year-old daughter who is

having a tough time handling her weight problem. He told me he had taken her

to a few therapists, and it didn`t seem to help at all. " I pointed out your

house to her the other day, and she said she thought you were cool. Would

you talk to my daughter? "

Two days later, I was sitting with Alisa in her living room, and she was

wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and a pair of baggy jeans. She looked so sad.

I asked her to go in her room and get me some of the magazines she likes to

read. We sat and turned the pages together. " I`ll never look like that, and

that`s the only way I want to look, or I don`t want to live. "

Gee, I thought that was pretty extreme coming from a 12-year-old! The girl

she was pointing at was a 22-year-old actress who had been tormented with

eating disorders and now weighs about 90 pounds. I explained to Alisa all

about how this girl stays so thin, and it freaked her out.

We continued flipping through the pages, and there was an ad for an aerobics

shoe, and the model in the ad really had a trim, toned body. " Do you think

she`s pretty, Alisa? " She said yes. I told her how the fitness model got to

look that way. I told her what foods the model ate and what kind of

exercising she does to stay in great shape.

Alisa wanted to know more! She made a list of foods I told her to eat, and

she promised me her parents would take her shopping. Then I bought a few of

my new cardio CDs for her and asked Alisa to start walking 30 minutes a day

every day. In just an hour, I could see a tremendous change in her attitude.

She was jazzed!

Yesterday I went to my mailbox and found a note from and one from

Alisa. `s read, " My daughter is eating blueberries and brown rice.

What have you done to her? " Alisa's note was short and sweet. " Thank you for

being there for me. "

I hope you`re jazzed about your life!

Love,
