Guest guest
's Daily Message Tuesday June 27, 2006 LORRAINE I just had a fling with Lorraine – Quiche Lorraine! More about that later. On my 7th birthday, my parents took Lenny and me to a small French restaurant a few blocks from where we lived. I was a very good reader, thanks to Len and Shirl. No one enjoyed reading menus more than me, but there were so many words on this menu that I never heard of before. " Mom, what`s escargot? " " Nothing you would like, honey. " " Dad, what are pom frites? " " Those are French fries. " Within a few minutes, a very nice waiter from France came over to our table. " Welcoom! I wooed like to tell you about our spe-ci-al of ze day. Eet iz called Quiche Lorraine. Eet iz a pie, a very spe-ci-al pie. The crust iz so boottery, eet will simply glide down your throot. Nestled in ze buttery crust iz a filling of chez, eggs, crème, more chez, bacoon, onions, and a leettle more chez on top. Who wooed like to try eet? " I`ll have 3! " " He will not, " Leonard said. " He will have 1. " When she arrived in front of me, I could not take my eyes off her. It was the spirit of a woman, mixed with a lot of cheese. I gobbled it down and did want 2 more, but fat chance my dad would let me have them. Quiche Lorraine has always been one of my favorite French dishes. You and I both know how many calories and fat grams are in this heavenly pie. Lorraine has followed me throughout the years, wanting more of my attention. Years ago, I said goodbye, and we went our separate tables. It has been over a decade since I was tempted by Lorraine… until I went to a meeting at a very fancy French restaurant, not too far from my home. Yes, escargot was there, and pom frites were on the menu, too. Within a few minutes, a very nice waiter from France came over to the table. " Welcome. I wooed like to tell you about ze spe-ci-al of ze day. Eet iz Quiche Lorraine. " Someone at the table said, " Ooh, who wants to split one? " I told her I would have one quarter, and I did. I had one quarter of Lorraine and a tomato and beet salad. I guess you could say I`m still seeing Lorraine, only in smaller portions. So that`s my quiche and tell story, and the moral of the story is, you can still eat your favorite foods once in a while and in the right portions.
