BELIEFS

My students at Slimmons and I discussed this subject that I don`t think we

ever talked about before. I asked them where they thought their bodies came

from and how they feel about their bodies. I could see the wheels spinning

in their minds. They had so many interesting things to say, and I wanted to

share them with you.

" I know that God created me in his image, but the creation of a human being

by 2 people is nothing short of miraculous! The way every cell of your body

knows exactly what to do. When I look in the mirror, I see a body that I

have abused most of my life, and while I have turned a lot of that abuse

around, I still see so many effects of that. Still, I like what I see! "

" I believe that my body is a temple to be respected and cared for. If my

body is healthy and strong, it is a better instrument for doing good in the

world, a better instrument for God`s work. "

" Initially my body was created by God, but I believe that the condition of

my body is a physical manifestation of how I feel about myself inside. The

fact that my body is not 100 percent where it should be directly reflects

the fact that I am not yet 100 percent in love with who I am, but I am

getting closer. "

" I feel that God gave me my body. He blessed me with it, but it`s my job to

take care of it, almost like a homebuilder who sells his creations to

someone else. The new owner must take care of the house. It`s up to me to

take care of my body. "

" It took me a long time to realize how blessed I am to have the body I have.

Everything works when I take care of my body! There are so many people who

don`t have the health I am blessed to have. How can I not take care of it?

It`s my responsibility to do so! It`s a gift to be able to do so! "

Now where do you believe your body came from, and how do you feel about your

body? I just know this: I believe with all my heart that I was created by

the Creator, and he gave this body to me, and I know he wants me to take

care of it before I leave it on this earth to someday join him. Yes, your

body is a temple.
