Hi,

I was shopping for work clothes last night and I went by Chick-Fil-A for dinner.

4 chicken strips: 290 calories, 13 g fat, 2.5 saturated, 14g carbs, 3 g sugar

fresh fruit cup: 50 calories, 13g carb, 11g sugar

honey mustard: 45 calories, 10g carb, 10g sugar

diet lemonade: 30 calories,l 7 g carb, 3 g sugar

I made "good" choices but the calories still add up fast. In the past I would have gotten:

6 chicken strips: 430 calories

Medium fries: 350 calories

or

chicken caesar cool wrap: 460 calories (might have 2 if I was hungry)

caesar dressing: 160 calories

The chicken caesar cool wrap seems healthy with grilled chicken and lettuce but it has more calories than 6 chicken strips. I certainly can't have it without the high calorie, high fat caesar dressing too.

I agree with Sula Blue that we need to try to fill our bodies with high quality food. Fast food should be a rare thing. I also agree with Bonnie though that eliminating it completely might not be practical in all households. I'm fine with my kids having fast food occasionally. They are both slim and healthy. They eat lots of fresh fruit and some veggies.

Tonight we're going to have chicken cooked in the skillet with a light coating of garlic powder, sauteed mushrooms and yellow squash. The kids will probably have sides of kiwi and fresh cherries.

YIKES! I just ate 3 shrimp spring rolls that I picked up at the grocery store just a little while ago. These things seem super healthy with 2 little shrimp per roll and lots of lettuce in a thin rice noodle wrapper. I should have read the * & % & * label before I bought them. 240 calories each and I ate all 3. Sheesh.

Just goes to show how calories can sneak up on us if we are not ever vigilant. We need to plan ahead so we know what we are putting into our bodies.

I need to put the Donvie (?sp) icecream maker tub in the freezer. After it freezes the girls and I are going to make frozen yogurt with peach yogurt and fresh peaches. Should be a yummy treat and fun to make with the kids.

Ann
