Guest guest
I may be the lone weirdo who wasn't swayed by the movie Supersize Me. I actually ate a Quarter Pounder with cheese, medium fries, and an Oreo McFlurry while I was watching it (1360 calories, 172g carbs, 43g protein, 56g fat). And I've continued to eat fast food about 3 times a week since then. Now, I'll admit that even though I love a greasy burger, I tend toward turkey sandwiches, fruit, and grilled chicken salads, choices that might not be so abundant today if Spurlock hadn't made such a spectacle of himself. So, I'm grateful to him for that. :-) It's just that if had worked out and used even a minuscule amount of restraint, his health wouldn't have taken such a scary dive. Other people have done 30 days of nothing but Mc's food with very different results. Chaz Weaver did it too and he lost 8 pounds, improved his cholesterol levels and kept his six-pack abs. Guest guest
This movie didn't discourage me enough from eating at fast food joints either. It's all relative - I mean, who plans on eating fast food for every meal of every day? I worked at Hot Dog on a Stick as a teenager (yes, with the 'beach ball' on my head and the tight little striped polyester outfit - LOL!) so I was already kind of familiar with the 'practices' in the fast food industry. I know when the fries taste bitter that the oil hasn't been changed in a looooong time. You can also tell this if the McNuggets (or Chicken Selects) taste like the fries and visa-versa... Christie M. Guest guest
No, you're not alone Skwigg. I'm usually too embarassed to admit it, but I went out afterwords for Mcs. It made me hungry for a big mac! But then, I'm not squeamish. I could clean up a pile of vomit while eating a bologna sandwich... And what was the point of putting all that food in jars to watch them decay? Yeah, we get it, fries don't break down, but food going into your gastrointestinal system is a lot different than food going into glass jars. I also kind of think was a bit of a drama queen, and you're right about his lack of restraint. Wasn't there another guy who did a 30 day thing like SuperSize me, but he kept up his regular workout routine with no repurcussions? I did, however, like the fact that he brought some of the more sinister marketing ploys to the surface, and the information about school lunches and vending machines in schools. Definitely very informative there.
Guest guest
i love you guys, but i'm sorry, it sounds like justifying bad eating habits - that stuff may not kill you now, but the cholestrol in there adds up in your heart and gets you when you're older - it is worth the risk? Guest guest
my trainer has taught me to eat clean foods...so even if people have proven you can eat it and it not cause problems...its not really a clean food so with or with out the movies influence Id stay away from it and all fast food for that reason. Guest guest
Me either. I can't think of a single fast food joint that has nothing I can eat except one, Mrs. Winner's fried chicken. They don't have grilled and that's why. We eat out at least 60% of our dinners. I am not good at cooking and I hate to. Sometimes we eat fast food, sometimes it is sit down where they have cloth napkins but always there is something I can eat without having to compromise. It might be more boring than fettucini alfredo or pasta primavera, but it tastes good to me. I've eaten plenty of Mcs. Grilled chicken sandwiches with only lettuce or a grilled Caesar chicken salad using the fork to dip in the dressing before stabbing the salad. And a diet coke. " Eat out " does not have to be synonymous with " pig out. " Stasia
Guest guest
I loved this movie....watched it about a year or so ago now...maybe more...haven't eaten at Mc's since. n > > I decided to watch this with my son tonight, bored and not much on TV. Of course, I could have rewatched Runaway bride or The Goonies, but since I haven'tactually watched it, decided it would be a good choice.. MAN, am I glad I did...I'm simply amazed and so was my 8 yr old son, I DVRed it to watch with my oldest at a later time. It really was eye opening... If you haven't (which I'm sure alot of you have) it really is something to see.. I know some of us still let our childen and Partners eat the same food as before, but after watching this, I have decided my kids don;t need all the junk, fast food crap either.. I started about a month ago making my kids lunchs and I will continue to do so.. watch it if you haven't, watch it with your kids.. some minor language, but for the most part, it is really enlightening... > > Take care, > Amy > > > --------------------------------- > Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs. Guest guest
Yes that show was good, and the poor guy got sick as a dog eating their food, but there is also a Supersize She and in this the woman eats there and loses weight. She said she wanted to prove that it can go both ways. I really like the show, and after the show came out Mc's starting introducing so called healthy items, fruit salad, healthy salads, etc. Pam " A.L.H " <livenlearnjoy@...> wrote: I decided to watch this with my son tonight, bored and not much on TV. Guest guest
Great movie! Also, the book Fast Food Nation is something to check out if you want to give yourself another reason not to eat fast food. It wasn't exactly a page turner, but very eye-opening from the unhealthy " food " and also the social and environmental impact of the fast food industry. Guest guest
> After watching " Supersize Me " , though, I will NEVER eat their > fries again (and my children don't get them, either). *shudders* > That's not right. >Is there something I should know. LOL I have never seen supersize me. Don't guess I have even heard of it.< http://www.supersizeme.com/ I don't know about all fast-food fries, but I stay away from them all after watching that documentary. Here's a summary, from what I remember: A really fit guy, early 30's, maybe?, decides to see what'll happen if he eats nothing but McD's for 30 days and tracks his health. He gained weight, he felt crummy most of the time, and his blood levels went from great to horrendous. It took him somewhere between 6-12 months to get back to 'normal'. Now onto the fries. *laughs* On the DVD, under 'extras', they do an experiment with McD's food. They take big, clean, clear jars with tight fitting lids and put a different item in each one to see how long each one takes to 'go bad'. Big mac, quarter pounder, fish sandwich, fries, etc. Well, because of the insane amount of processing and preservatives in the food, they take quite a while to mold and get nasty...except the fries. The fries looked the same after 10 WEEKS as they did the first day. I'm not kidding. First off, they use genetically modified potatoes--they don't go bad as quickly. Second, I don't know what they fry those in, but it's gotta have some serious preservatives. All I know is, that just can't be good for our bodies. I don't want to put any kind of food into my body that doesn't rot after 10 weeks at room temperature. *lol* I can't help but wonder how long it takes to work itself out of our systems, y'know? And someone accidentally threw away the fries, so we never found out *exactly* how long they take to go bad. Think about it, though...no mold after 10 weeks? That's just not right. *laugh* Now I *really* gotta run! :-) -Bonnie
