's Daily Message FridayMay 26, 2006GO FAST AND CRASH

On the way to Slimmons last evening, I witnessed a terrible car accident. This guy next to me started to really speed up in the middle of all that traffic. In his haste, he ended up smashing into two other cars and looked to have totaled his own. I was shocked at the mess but, thankfully, no one appeared to be hurt.

Speeding through life is not a good thing to do, ever. I mean, why is everyone in such a hurry all the time? Carla T., from Missouri, used to be on the fast track. As a result of her own "speeding", she nearly died.

At 242 pounds, Carla decided she was ready to begin a program to lose weight. The first week, she sensibly counted calories, worked out faithfully and lost three pounds. The second week, she lost two. (Sounds good to me.)

But Carla was not satisfied that the weight was coming off so slowly. She truly thought she should be losing more weight for all of her efforts. Carla wanted to speed up her weight loss so she decided to cut her calories and work out more.

She went from consuming 1800 calories a day to only 800. Her meals were basically the same everyday, consisting mainly of salads, very lean proteins and vegetables. And, instead of working out 45 minutes a day, Carla pushed herself to work out 2 1/2 hours a day, 7 days a week!

And just as she`d expected, Carla started to lose weight...and fast! In the first week of her new accelerated plan, she lost 8 pounds and that made Carla very happy. She stayed on that plan until she was taken, by ambulance, to the hospital! See what happened? Carla decided to get into the fast lane and, because of that choice, she crashed.

I`m glad to report that Carla is doing much better now and the really good news is that she`s back to losing weight the steady and safe way.

Listen up everybody. Eating 800 calories a day or less is not enough to keep your body nutritionally alive. Like Carla, by eating so little, you are simply asking for trouble. And doing 2 1/2 hours of exercise per day will actually wear out your body, not build it.

I know it can be frustrating. The weight comes on so fast when we overeat. We all know, it`s so easy to gain a pound or two, daily. But getting the weight off, well, that`s a different story, isn`t it? But if you are consistently losing your weight, please...be satisfied! Remember, you have to be patient while dropping those unwanted pounds. But, as long as you do the right things and stay on track, they WILL come off.

I certainly hope you have been faithful and stuck with the program all week. The Memorial Day weekend is here and I really don't want you to, (ahem), "speed up" with your fork. Okay?

Give my best to your families and have a safe, healthy holiday weekend.

Love,
