Guest guest
It's Mother's Day in the USA, a day our families traditionally take Mom out for a fancy dinner. In this house, I already told my guys I'm not going anywhere, not eating anything special. My boys still wanted to do something special, and they're going to pick up Subway sandwiches, and for me it'll be the all veggie one on whole wheat (?) roll and leave off the oil. That should add up to 2 starches (possibly more - I don't remember how big this sandwich is as I only had it once in my life) and possibly 2 veggies. If not, I always have a salad in the fridge. I'll be making up a simple fruit salad to go along with it for all of us for dessert. What are the rest of you having for Mother's Day dinner? Guest guest
Good morning Sue and Happy Mother's Day! I've already had a breakfast of french toast on diet bread and sugar free syrup. I'll skip my morning snack cause the dh made me 4 pieces. For lunch I'm hoping to ge away with a small burger on diet bread and maybe a dollop of potato salad. For supper the inlaws are coming and we're having pork chops and roast veggies. So, I'll have a small no fat chop and stay away from the potato and stick with " free " veggies and roasted yams. Baked yam chunks are the best! > It's Mother's Day in the USA, a day our families traditionally take Mom out for a fancy dinner. > > In this house, I already told my guys I'm not going anywhere, not eating anything special. Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- From: Sue in NJ > they're going to pick up Subway sandwiches, We went to church and then went out to a local restaurant. It opened at 11am and that's about when we arrived to beat the crowds. Moms ate free which was nice. I had grilled chicken with mushrooms and swiss, green beans and a few bites of pinto beans. I brought half of it home for later. I gave my roll to the kids so it was a pretty healthy lunch. We came home after lunch and I took a nice nap. When I got up gave me my present which is a 10 day free trial to 24 Hour Fitness. No, he wasn't being incredibly cheap. He had gotten a 3 year membership but he chickened out and cancelled it so I can try it out first and make sure I like it. This is a great gift. The only catch is when I'm going to go if I get a full time job. If I'm unemployed I'll go every morning after I take the kids to school. In the summer I'd let them read, play Gameboy or whatever in the Kid's Club for an hour while I work out. It's a different story if I'm working though. For those of you that work full time and have kids when do you exercise? I think it would work to go to the gym on Sat. and Sunday then I would only have to go 2 evenings to get in 4 days per week. I want muscles again! Ann
Guest guest
Re: What's cooking today? Since Mother's Day always seems to fall on Sunday, we never, ever celebrate Mother's Day on Mother's Day. My husband is a pastor and Sunday is the busiest day of the week for us. We usually go out on Saturday afternoon -- but didn't make it this weekend. If is hard to coordinate our schedules with two teenage sons who are working on weekends & my hsuband's Sunday schedule. It really dosent matter when you get together. My mom holds her Christmas and Thanksgiving meals the wekend before the Holidays figuring people's schedule will be better then on the holiday themselves. We should all feel blessed that have our family's close enough for us to celebrate with. I would feel so lonesome if my family lived far away. Guest guest
What are the rest of you having for Mother's Day dinner?Mother's Day is a day we don't really "celebrate" as far as going out and having a fancy meal. My kids both usually calls and gets me a card and a gift. Hubby and I don't do anything special ourselves on Mother's or Father's day.Which is really kinda strange because we seem to be a close knit family and we celebrate and get together for all kinds of occassions and not just holidays but Mother's Day and Father's day isn't one of them. The day won't go by without the kids calling and getting us a card and a gift but we don't do the whole meal thing. So today we had left over homemade Lasagna( which is almost as good as eating out!)Tonight will probably be a tv dinner. I hope the rest of you are having a great day! Guest guest
We didn't go out, either...too hectic and difficult with small kids. So we made teriyaki marinated chicken breast with roasted squash and zucchini on the side. Would have been a fantastic day had my mom not brought down two dozen Panera bagels. UGH! Oh well, back on track again Monday morning Did all you moms have a great day? -Bonnie > > It's Mother's Day in the USA, a day our families traditionally take Mom out for a fancy dinner. > > In this house, I already told my guys I'm not going anywhere, not eating anything special. Guest guest
That's an awesome gift from your hubby! Most of my friends that work full time either do what you said, or they get up and go to the Y at 5am 2-3 mornings, then on Saturday and Sunday. Good luck figuring it out! -Bonnie > For those of you that work full time and have kids when do you exercise? There's nothing cheap about giving someone a *free* trial membership printed off the internet??? LOL! He even printed a free card off the internet as well. Nah. He did fine because he knows how much I want to join the gym but I couldn't budget for it. I'm glad he cancelled the package he purchased so I can try the place out first. If I like it we'll join again. I want to get him a bike for Father's Day. He's the only one in the family that doesn't have one. Bikes are kind of expensive though and I don't know how much he would use it. Ann
