Guest guest
Dana- I know that with Grace her ped went the backwards route and got us in to see the orthotist and have the helmet made she received her helmet and then he said "oops we need her to see a neurosurgeon". So I made the appt after he called them and it took me one month to get in, we see him tomorrow. I do know too that he explained to them that he put her in the helmet first and he really wanted her to get in because of the asymetry and whatnot and he wanted them to see her as soon as possible and they said "oh ok how about a month!" I think he was thinking more along the lines of one week! It is sad that they don't have more concern for patients that they get them in sooner especially when you are on a time crunch with the age of the babies etc. We were just lucky that we went backwards and got her in the helmet first! -- and Grace
Guest guest
Dana, It is typical for the appointments with the specialists to take quite awhile, but 3 months is unreasonable! The squeaky wheel gets the oil, so squeak away. Call them, call them and call them again! Make sure they know who you are and what you want even before you begin to speak! Sorry about the slow progress, but even if you don't start until 7 or 8 months old you should get some good correction. Guest guest
Is it normal to have to wait a long for an appt. with a nuerosurgeon? I asked my ped. for a referral at the beginning of Jan. when my son was 5 months old. I called yesterday to check on the progress of the referral and found out that the referral was not yet made. Ahhhh!!! The receptionist said that it will take another 1-3 months to see the nuerosurgeon. I am concerned that will be too old by then to see good results if we decide to get the band. I am pretty well frustrated with every health care profesional I have run into thus far. Obviously, nobody sees this as an urgent matter. Sorry everyone....I needed to vent. Dana ('s mom) Ont. Guest guest
Dana: Sorry, but it is very common to have that long of a wait to see a neuro., I just posted about that this week too . I suggest scheduling the appt for as soon as possible, then request being put on a cancellation list, that way if they get any cancellations before your appt., they can give you a call to see you sooner. It's helped several group members in the past. Is there any way your ped. would write you an RX for a band before you see a ped. neuro - that way you could get the ball rolling sooner? Has had a CTscan or xrays yet to rule out cranio? If so and it's negative, then see what your ped. can do. You don't sound at all impressed with him thus far, but maybe he could do that for you. It's worth a shot! Guest guest
Hi Dana, Debbie beat me to it! I was going to suggest that you request being put on a cancellation list too! Be sure to call them every so often so that they don't forget about you! I was really fortunate in that I was able to get into to see a neuro within 2 weeks, and on a Saturday too! Keep bugging them and you'll get in sooner, hopefully! Guest guest
I had to reply to this. Get the name of the neuro you want to see whos in your network and on the plan, make your own appoitment. Then go to your primary care Dr or call and demand that referal, dont leave the office till they give it to you. We just did this with my best friend who had a lymph node problem that was poissible cancer nd needed surgery asap. We did this and she was seen within 3 hrs of making appointment. lUCKILY AFTER SURGERY IT WAS BENIGN, THE FIRST DR WANTED HER TO WAIT 3 WEEKS TO BE SEEN. I used to be the referal person for a Drs office and it can be done this way will all iNSURANCES SO DONT LET THEM bs.. YOU. Guest guest
Dana, I tried to get an appt. asap also after learning had tort. I called the Doc and told her the date and she thought it was unsatisfactory, and had an appt. made with the neuro they frequently use-the next week! Express your concerns with your ped and ask if she will help you get an earlier appt.- let her know that time is of the essence- this is what you want- and she is the only way that you can get in earlier (guilt?)- she must have connections to nueros being a ped! If she tries to pacify you- don't let her. Tell her your very informed about this and expect that as your child's ped, she support you in your quest to get the best care for your child. Good luck, hope it works out! ' Mom
Guest guest
Dana: I would be upset if I were you too!! Yes, sometimes it can take a long time to see the neurosurgeon, but it takes 30 seconds to make the referral!!!! My daughter's doctor called the Children's Hospital while I was still sitting in the room!!! Yes, it took a long time to actually see the neuro, but that doctor/nurse is wasting precious time by not making the call to book you an appointment. If I were you, I'd call back and demand that the appt. be made today, then call every day there after until they give you the date & time. It can be awful to be so persistent, but there isn't anyone better to look out for your baby than you! Good luck, and keep us posted! ) Kendra in Canada Frustrated!
