After using a sun bed for 25 years, my dermatologist suggested I stop using it because I was doing damage to my skin. So for about 3 months, I stayed away from the bed and watched my California suntan disappear. Gee, it`s been 25 years since I`ve seen myself "untanned," and frankly, I thought I looked very pale like a piece of halibut! My doctor gave me the name of a place that could give me my tan back safely, so I drove over to UVA Tan, and there I met 2 sweet girls who were there to make my "tanning" experience a good one. First they sat me down to watch this movie that would explain the process. It showed this lady in her bathing suit going into the tanning room. She put this cap on and shoved all her blond hair in it, sort of like what the women look like when they work in a school cafeteria. Then she took a glob of this thick, white cream and spread it on her hands. Next, she put her footsies in little paper shoes. When the prep was all done, she entered a small chamber where the tanning sprayers were. Then it showed how the lady stood in the chamber. There were all these directions on how to hold your hands and your arms to get that perfect tan. She then pressed the glowing green button, and the tanning solution began to shoot out of these big valves. To tell you the truth, I watched this movie twice! Right after, one of the girls escorted me to my room. I went in, got undressed, and reached for the cap. My cap had a huge hole right down the middle. You should have seen me try to fold it together so all my curls would fit in. I didn`t want tanned hair! LOL! I looked for the little paper shoes, and well, they weren`t there! I gobbed this thick, white cream all over my hands and entered the chamber. I began to brush up on my hand and arm movements. When I was ready, I pressed the green button, and out came the tanning spray. No one told me the spray would be cold… ice cold! I sort of looked like Jerry in one of his old movies. And when it came out and hit my body, I was so shocked, my hands and arms went everywhere! I woke up the next morning and just about fainted when I looked in the mirror. I was tan, but it was in a sort of striped pattern. I looked like a zebra! Oh, and my feet were the color of pumpkins! I have to go back today to have it evened out. Well, who said beauty was easy?
