Guest guest
's Daily MessageWednesdayMarch 15, 2006 HABIT FORMING There are only 2 kinds of habits. There are many kinds of rabbits, but only 2 kinds of habits. Those that are good for you, and those that aren`t! Both kinds of habits dwell in all of us. Some of them were sort of given to us by those who loved us. Did your parents smoke when you were a kid? Well, mine did. They were both major smokers. They would always buy cartons of cigarettes, because they each smoked 3 packs a day. There were some kids at school that smoked, but I was never interested in trying it. As a child, my parents took my brother and me to the grocery store, and… to the bakery when we were still in strollers. The lady behind the counter would always give my mother a taste of something new. She would also give us a taste, too. My parents took us to fancy restaurants, and we would taste everything from Lobster Thermidor to Oysters Rockefeller. My bad eating habits started early and followed me for a very long time. Another bad habit I developed as a kid was laziness. I never played sports in school, because I was too fat to move. During PE periods, I would sit and eat while everyone sweated. And when I went home, I went from the desk chair to the dining room chair to the living room couch to my bed. Other bad habits followed, like talking down to myself and always thinking negative thoughts. Bad habits can be broken, and good habits can develop. You can quit smoking and form good breathing habits. You can continually educate yourself about nutrition and portions and create healthy eating habits that will last you a lifetime. And look, did I break my bad, old laziness habit and start sweatin` myself? You bet I did! First you have to acknowledge your bad habits that are taking you down the wrong road. Then you have to know what these bad habits will lead to, like cancer, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and a slew of other medical problems. Then you have to want, really want to do something about these habits. Don`t frown. You can turn them around with a lot of patience and a lot of courage. Work to face your bad habits head on!
