My poor little one is miserable.....

He stayed up half the night on Wednesday coughing, so he stayed home from school on Thursday (rare for him... has missed 5 periods in 3 years, Jon's missed 3 days total).

I picked Jon up from school on Friday afternoon. I met him on the playground since he had PE last period. It was windier than you could ever imagine. He was coughing like crazy and couldn't catch his breath for anything. He had a maximum of 2 seconds between coughs and had a BRIGHT red face & ears. We got in the car, and I figured his cough would lessen. Well, it actually got worse. So, I took him straight to Kaiser to his doctors office. They said that the doc was booked for the afternoon, but, the nurse could see him shortly. He was still coughing uncontrollably. People were moving away from him (even though we sat in the least populated corner of the office), and were giving us looks for some crazy reason. Well, after about 20 minutes (which seemed like 10 hours), the nurse called him in. Well, within about a minute of having him in there, she ran out the door and consulted the doctor, and started him on a albuterol breathing treatment with the nebulizer, and got him on a pulse machine, blood pressure machine, and an oxygen monitor. The treatment took about 20 minutes, and didn't appear to do anything for him. (And since he was going to be seeing the doctor, I had to go back out to the front desk and register him.) While I was out there, he ended up vomiting all over himself. (The nurse was nice enough to clean him up while I was out there, and she got him some cans of juice & a cup of water.) Well, after drinking all of that, he had to go down the hall to the restroom....he almost fainted on the way back (fell into the wall). =(

The doctor decided that he needed xrays, so, they decided that he should be in a wheelchair due to the dizzyness. Well, 4 hours later, and 2 xrays & 2 breathing treatments, and 5 prescriptions later....we were heading home....

(The meds worked, but made him very nauseous....he actually got a full nights sleep last night and just took a nap after a nasty coughing spell.) It's amazing how all of this came on so quickly (especially for a boy that never gets sick....other than well child checkups, he's only been to the doc for 2 other things...kidney stones & a broken foot....so, when he does it, he does it well!)

He's possibly asthmatic, has bronchitis and a viral infection. No PE for 10 days. So......to make a long story short....if ya feel like sending a get well card, I'm sure Jon would appreciate it more than you know.

(His address is AndDaCowGoesMoo@...)

Thanks guys!

Sandi
