Guest guest
i would say yes, it really is. the shoes are going to help keep your feet in proper alignment and help absorb some of the shock on your joints. i have made the mistake of doing the leslie sansone 3 mile barefoot and i was much sorer that i usually am. the only time i exercise without shoes is when i do yoga. just my $.02 -heidi On 3/17/06, Ajerseygirl52@... <Ajerseygirl52@...> wrote: Is it really necessary to wear sneakers when we work out? Guest guest
Sue, I hate shoes too. But I have learned that a supportive shoe is vital. I don't know about ankles, but without support, you risk damage to the tendons on the sides of your feet and your heel. I have seen way too much of my pediatrist. Shots in the foot hurt like h@@#$% (the shots are like cortizone. I don't remember exactly what they contain.) I wear a good supportive shoe at all times and have not had to return to the doc for about a year. He told me the only thing he could do was another shot. But if you hate your shoes that much, go to a shoe store and keep trying on shoes until you find a pair that are right. Try different widths. My husband is a 4E - every wide. I am a womans 13E, but I wear men's sports shoes because men's shoes are more supportive than womens - in my experience. I have over 200 pounds to loose, so I am really put some abuse on my feet and have to take care of them. But I think that the same thing goes for anyone, barefeet do not support your foot during exercise. I hope this helps. Take care and have a great weekend. Guest guest
I agree with the other ladies. I was told that the problems I have with my feet developed from going bare foot too much (I hated shoes, too) and being so overweight. I started buying New Balance (on sale they are as low as $35, I think, and go up to $60) and they have helped me SO much. They are the only shoes that are comfortable for me. I buy the men's running shoes (running shoes are supposed to be the most supportive) and I have 4E width and I'm telling you, my feet can withstand just about anything now. Last July, I was limping around everywhere because my feet hurt so bad. Turns out my arches had fallen (overweight and barefoot--was told it was only a matter of time) and I just *hurt*. Anyway, started wearing NB and within a week, was walking and in Sept started doing WATP. *shrugs* Just a thought! Good luck! -Bonnie > > Is it really necessary to wear sneakers when we work out? Guest guest
I personally walked most of the time on my old treadmill barefooted.(It's probably not a good idea to do that) Since I got the other one I always wear shoes as the surface is different and makes my feet a little sore without shoes. I think it is probably a good idea to always wear shoes when exercising especially for high impact execises so you will have the arch, heel and ankle support. But as you said when you are used to going barefeet it may be easier for you. My suggestion is to wear shoes for most of your exercises but maybe kick them off if you are doing like the standing still toning type exercise you know like working your upper body or even lower body without a lot of stepping and movement. I'm like you myself. My shoes are kicked off when I eneter my house and don't go on till I'm ready to leave my house unless I am exercising. When I go outside I always wear easy slip on and off shoes mostly flip flops in warm weather. Where I cant stand wearing shoes in the house I'm right the opposite outside. I cant stand going bare foot outside. LOL The above is only my opinion. ~:~The Personal Touch~:~Tags, Stats, or anything else personalized with your name.Everything here is personalized!http://free.hostdepartment.com/t/thepersonaltouchMy Personal Web Site Workout/shoe question... Guest guest
For me it depends on what exercise I am doing -- and where I am doing it. When I am doing my exercise videos in the privacy of my own home, I do it without shoes. I do wear some heavy socks while I exercise. When I am on my treadmill or at the YMCA -- I always wear shoes. I will also say that as a diabetic, I always have something on my feet -- either shoes, heavy socks, or flip flops at home. I want to protect my feet as much as possible. Guest guest
In my opinion, I would say it depends on what you are doing and if you are afraid of damaging your feet... stubbing toes, dropping weights on them GASP, etc.... I definately do when I walk or am at Curves.... when I do my workout videos at home: 50/
Guest guest
Hey, thanks Sandi!!! Sometimes Ebay just doesn't come to mind as quickly as it should! I haven't found anything else that works well for me, possibly because my feet are so wide. *shrugs* It's okay, though, at least I don't have to pay to have them custom made or something -Bonnie > If you have a Kohl's near you, you might want to head over there. Guest guest
*lol* This just cracked me up. I had a clarinet teacher that used to tell me he was going to beat me with a wet noodle and I had no idea what he was going on about until I was older and realized it was a joke (I was 12 and lived a very sheltered life ) But as for NB shoes, Kohl's and JCPenney's have the best selection out here. Kohl's had two entire rows of NB just for men and most were running shoes. Just something to keep in mind if you're ever looking for 'em -Bonnie > You ladies are a wealth of information and I'll go to the corner and slap > myself with a wet noodle for the thought of working out barefoot > > >
