Guest guest
's Daily MessageThursdayMarch 16, 2006 IT`S HARD! I recently asked my class at Slimmons a very tough question. If you`ve been in LA and have come to one of my Project Me meetings, you know we sit in a circle on the floor and chat. We take inventory, discuss health issues, and participate in a writing assignment. The question was, "Why is it so hard to stay on your food program?" I was asking this question to quite a few women in the class who are still fighting the food demon, knife and fork. We usually spend 5 minutes writing, but that didn`t seem to be enough time for this question. I had never seen them write so much, but what they wrote will touch you like it touched me. "It is hard for me because I am emotional. When emotions get in the way, it makes the desire to eat greater than the desire to watch what I eat." "First, as it seems to take forever to lose weight, a sense of futility creeps in, and I often think it`s not worth the energy expended. It also requires a true lifestyle change, which doesn`t mean just changing what foods you eat, but figuring out how to change the patterns that led to it in the first place." "Sometimes we are so focused on the food that we forget to work on the emotional aspects. Life happens, and problems arise, and we often turn back to food for comfort. When we are all able to balance food and emotion, the journey may become easier to stay on for life." "It`s hard for me, because like Project Me Passport number one says, 'I`m addicted to food.' I can rationalize it and blame it on a thousand things, but it all goes back to the addiction. I really thought I had control over this addiction, but it still has a hold on me. Food is still such a prize for me." After class, many of my students told me they had to do some soul searching to answer that question. They told me it gave them a lot to think about. Is it hard for you to go steady with your food plan, and why? Are you stressed, out of time, too emotional? Write your own answers to these questions. Face the reasons why you are not as healthy as you should be! I do hope you`ve been on program so far this week. If not, start… NOW!
