WHAT WILL IT TAKE?

Two friends of mine from out or town came to visit me at Slimmons this week.

I hadn`t seen either of them for a while, and they informed me that they had

each gained weight. I`ve known these ladies for quite a few years now, and

for those years, I have watched them struggle with the excess poundage. They

know the FoodMover by heart and have accomplished learning most of the steps

of all of my videos. For all these years, I`ve emailed them, corrected their

food sheets, and have tried my best to motivate them, but for some reason,

none of it ever clicked.

When they walked into class, I could see that there was sadness in their

faces. This is the heaviest I`ve ever seen them. When the music started and

everyone began to move, I could tell that their bodies hadn`t moved in a

long time. Now they had both been to Slimmons before and just glided through

the workout, but not this time. Their movements were small and lacked

energy. I could see that they were disappointed because they could no longer

keep up with the class. I watched them very closely during the workout,

because I didn`t want them to do too much.

During my motivation part of the class, I asked this question to my

students: what is it going to take for you to get serious about getting to a

healthier weight? A stroke? That`s not a good thing to have. Parts of your

body could become paralyzed. A heart attack? You don`t want to be messin`

with your heart. When it stops beating… you`re out! Diabetes? That`s a very

dangerous disease that can cause blindness and limb amputations due to poor

circulation. A life of depression? That doesn`t sound like any fun. Every

time we try a weight loss program and don`t live up to it, you get a little

more depressed. I don`t want any of these mental and physical problems to

happen to these sweet girls… or to YOU!

If you are not doing so well right now, you must muster up all the courage,

guts, and inspiration you can. Rise to the occasion and start again!

Love,
