Hi Colleen,

Welcome to a wonderful group! I have gotten so much advice and

inspiration from these folks. My name is and I live in the San

Diego area with my dh and 3 daughters..... (age 7 1/2),

(age 5 1/2), and (age 3.... almost 4!). also has

DS. She will be starting kindergarten in a few weeks, and excited to be

going to " big girl " school with her big sister. We JUST got her potty

trained about 6 weeks ago, so hang in there...... it will happen!

still has some accidents if not reminded to go (and is

sooooooo stubborn that she fights every reminder :-), but I am hoping

that this will just keep improving as we make our way towards

kindergarten! Apparently she is reminded/taken to the potty at summer

school, and no one has mentioned it is a fight, so I'm hoping that she

just saves that lovely behavior for mom and dad!

Anyway, this is the place to bring your questions, frustrations and

brags! Welcome.

, mom to (7), (5 DS), and (3)

The night shift can be tricky, but it's doable. I used to (foolishly)

sleep at night on my days off and during the day on my work week. If

you get that kind of a weird split shift going, the meal timing can

get confusing. It's best to eat every 2-3 hours for as long as you're

awake. Having a cooler full of authorized foods is critical too. I

think the biggest hazard for most people on night shifts is eating to

pass time or stay awake. Have your plan and stick to it. Let us know

if you need any help or ideas. :-)

Heads up.

You may already have heard of this

research...melatonin/darkness/nightime/cancer stuff...

http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20060107/bob9.asp

http://www.powerwatch.org.uk/news/20051201_breast_cancer_melatonin.asp

http://www.fhcrc.org/about/ne/news/2001/10/16/graveyard_cancer.html

Here's a clip from the Science News article;

Furthermore, compared with other workingwomen, female night-shift

workers have about a 50 percent greater risk of developing breast

cancer, says Hrushesky of Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center

in Columbia, S.C.

Blind women, by contrast, have unusually low rates of breast cancer

and high average melatonin concentrations, he says.

" Almost nobody who does shift work adapts to it, " s says. On

their days off, most shift workers concentrate their activities during

daylight, which upsets their circadian rhythms as much as commuting

across several time zones would, he says.

AND;

The Harvard researchers estimated nurses' peak nightly melatonin

concentrations by measuring the hormone in the first urine void of a

day. " Those with higher levels seem to have lower breast cancer risk, "

Schernhammer says. She and Hankinson reported the data in the July 20,

2005 Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

If I was working the night shift, I would want to know my a.m.

melatonin level. It's an easy screening tool as it's just a urine test.

Good grief, those were disturbing links. Seeing as how I work nights

in a big brightly lit electromagnetic field, I'm surprised I haven't

grown a tail or something.

Welcome! She did " warn " us you would be joining. :)

Are you using a specific plan or just cutting back, making healthier food

choices, and getting more exercise in?

> it's cold outside now so i;m haveing a hard time

Crazy weather all over the US this year! Yesterday here in NJ we broke the

record and hit 64!

>so with income tax where hoping to get a treadmill.

We got one with out year 2000 tax check. I wonder if it's hit 10, 000 steps

yet. No, I exaggerate, especially since the past 2 weeks I'm getting back on

track and doing a half hour on the tread 3 times a week. As my endurance

increases, so will my speed and time, but for now, I'm taking it slow and

easy. At age 52 with arthritis and host of other muscle & tendon problems, I

don't have much choice.

Hi , My name is and I am 34 years old. I am married to a wonderful man who is 39 years old. Our child is a black cat named Gracie. I was told I have type 2 diabetes in September. My last test in December showed my blood levels as being normal. I weighed in at 340 back in September and today I weigh in at 304.1. I am working really hard at losing weight. I eat the way that they taught me at the diabetic clinic (Well, not all the time, but most of the time) and I am exercising and drinking more water. There is a walking track across the street from where I live and on nice days I can go over there and walk. There is an exercise room here on the apartment complex where I live so I can go there and use the treadmill and life weights if I want. They have a bike there too and another thing that you pump with your legs and pull with your arms. Some one told me what it was called, but I can't remember now what they said. I don't have the greatest of memories. Well, I just wanted to welcome you to the group. I hope you like it here, and I hope it helps in your weight loss journey. 340/304.1/135 just wanted to introduce myselfhello my name is kim i just joined the group yesterday. my friends name is myssi who introduced me to the group. i found out about 5 months ago that diabetes was close to happening so i have made some changes .my second a1c numbers where much better than the first so that is very good i'm very happy about that. my weight in sept was around 305 now it is about 260 which is back up 20 pounds so i was looking for ways to help me get back on track.i'm married with one son who is 13yrs old.i'm 33 my husband is 50yrs old and we have a 10 year old black lab fish turtles rabbit. it's cold outside now so i;m haveing a hard time getting outside to walk so with income tax where hoping to get a treadmill. so i can get in those 10,000 steps a day thanks for letting me join your group i hope it will help get me back on track kimberly100-Plus Files page 100-plus/files100-Plus Links page 100-plus/links

Welcome :) Have you thought about other ondoor exercises? There's a lot you can do - both with videos / dvd's or offline. www.sparkpeople.com has all sorts of things you can do around the house with stuff you already have. The biggest thing you probably need to focus on is your medical health. Sounds like you were doing great, so you know what needs to be done. What can we do to help? Have you picked a menu plan? are you drinking your water? Do you journal? Have you set your goals - new month - new goals. Instead of saying I want to lose 8-10 pounds this month - think about what you're going to do to meet that goal etc. We're here :)maggielabdavid <scrappyswoman72@...> wrote: hello my name is kim i just joined the group yesterday. my friends name is myssi who introduced me to the group. i
