Hi everyone!!

I'm new to this group. I heard about you through the tort group, which I am a member of.

My son, (now 11 mos. - will turn one on the 25th of this month!) was diagnosed with mild torticollis/plagio back in July of 2001 (he was then 6 mos.) My husband and I suspected something was wrong earlier on, but our ped. said there was nothing wrong and that his head would change shape as he started sitting up and crawling. (He also had NO clue about the torticollis either!) We pushed for a referral to see a Neurologist, our ped. insisted that we did not need to see one. So we went on our own without a referral (which did get later on from our ped. for insurance purposes) But, by the time we waited for all of the appts. was already 5 mos. old! The Neurosurgeon diagnosed him with mild torticollis, but he also did not think he needed a helmet!!! We were sick, although we did not want him to have to wear one, we felt with everything that we read, that he definitely needed to wear one!!!! At his first PT appt. (for the tort.), his PT took one look at his head and asked us if we have ever considered helmet therapy!!! I started to cry (basically out of relief)!!!! She was the only one, other than my husband and me (and our families) who thought so he needed a helmet!! Anyway, the Neurosurgeon was still a little "iffy" on the helmet therapy -- but we insisted -- so he gave us the script!! was put into helmet therapy (Star Band helmet therapy) on Aug 25, 2001 -- he was exactly 7 mos. old. Oh also, as soon as his orthotist saw him, he said he said was a perfect candidate for helmet therapy!! adjusted really well to the helmet. We've have our ups and downs with it -- but it has done a terrific job!!! 's head looks absolutely great!! We had our last appt. with our orthotist on Jan. 4, 2002 and eveything is going great!! Anyway, sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to let you all know something about us!!!

Hi all- I just wanted to let you know that in our quest to beat CIGNA of NC at their own game in regard to our denial of DOC band therapy due to investigatoinal and no functional impairment we went to FOX News with our story. They interviewed us today at Cranial Tech in Charlotte and we will be on tonight ( Friday 1/11) at both 6:30 pm and 10:00 pm news (HOPEFULLY).
