Guest guest
" Whooping Cough Outbreaks Reported in U.S. Hospitals " Reuters Health Information Services (www.reutershealth.com/archive/2005/01/27/eline/links/20050127elin028.html) (01/27/05) In the current issue of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, Dr. K from the University of Louisville and colleagues describe three U.S. hospital outbreaks of whooping cough that occurred during 2003. An outbreak in Kentucky resulted in one infant, four nurses, and one doctor being infected, while another in Pennsylvania spread from a three-week-old infant to eight health care workers and nine of their colleagues. Finally, a reported outbreak in Oregon involved a doctor catching the illness from an infected 12-month-old, even though the doctor was wearing a protective mask while caring for the child. CDC officials are asking healthcare workers to refrain from putting patients with coughing ailments in close contact with other people, particularly infants, and to use surgical masks, frequent hand-washing, and other precautionary measures to avoid whooping cough infection. ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com
