RE: tetanus and ear piercing?

This is not a silly question. I would not worry. Go to Sherri's site and read

about tetanus and other websites as well. That should calm your nerves. I hope

she doesnt cry too much when they do her hears. You may want to ice her lobes a

bit to ease the pain. I am wanting to get my daughters ears done but she has to

ask for it first.

My daughter is five years old and wants her ears pierced. The store

uses prepackaged piercing posts and cleans everything. I have no

problem with having this done but then my husband asked if it was

safe given that she's never had any vaccinations (tetanus). I'm

guessing it's not an issue but just wanted to ask and see if there

were other opinions.

what makes your hubbie think the tetanus shot actually

protects you from it???? the worst cases of (chronic)

tetanus i've seen were in people who fell ill (with

tetanus) AFTER they were vaccinated.

i'm not one for piercing by any means, but ears are

okay imo. i have 5 holes in my two ears, dd (nearly

15) has 7, ds (nearly 7) is bugging me to get his

first two. i have no issues with it, and believe me, i

am totally anti-vaccine and i'm somewhat

anti-piercing. but to my mind, piercing ears is okay.

they've been done for hundreds of years in several

cultures, long before vaccines were invented. and

vaccines wouldn't prevent any illness anyways....

Thanks Sherri and everyone. Even though we made a very researched

decision not to vaccinate, now that she is older I guess I just never

think about it any more. I forget she's not vaccinated. LOL It was

such a huge issue when she was really little and now I never give it a

thought. We're homeschooling so I don't get those reminders to get

shots for school or whatever. But then when the issue came up about

piercing her ears for some reason it made us think about this stuff all

over again after having it shelved for a long time. I wasn't really

that worried, dh may have been as he is never the one to read or

research anything. It's all on me for every decision that is made. So

it's natural for him to not know what I know. Then he makes me start to

wonder. LOL
