Guest guest
's Daily Message Wednesday January 18, 2006 HATE TO COOK I can`t imagine anyone not loving to cook! I wasn`t raised in the bedroom. I was raised in the kitchen, and I can prove it! I have photos of Lenny in a high chair and me in a basinet watching Shirley and Leonard whip up a leg of lamb, scalloped potatoes, and a spinach soufflé. I`m not kidding! My parents would put my brother and me in a shopping cart and wheel us around the aisles. As my mother would put food in the basket, she would say to us, " This is a pineapple, and they grow in Hawaii. And these are carrots, and they make you see better. And these are chocolates, and they can get you in trouble. " Oh, and she was SO right! After shopping, my parents would carry in the groceries and plan the meal. They would put on a record and dance in the kitchen while the red beans and rice were cooking. When I left for New York to find fame and fortune, my mother handed me a book, and in the book were written her favorite recipes so I could carry on the tradition of fine cooking, and I certainly have! One of the ways I keep my weight steady is by cooking and eating at home. I love eating out, but restaurants sort of put a spell on me. I remember when the bread basket hits the table, and the rest is a blur. When I cook at home, I know pretty much how many calories and fat grams I`m eating. At home, it is a lot simpler to balance your meals. If you are truly serious about developing healthier eating habits, there`s no place better to start than in your own kitchen! Check out your kitchen and see if there`s everything you need to prepare scrumptious meals that are good for you. Go through some of your favorite cookbooks – I hope some of them are mine – and start making out menus for the rest of this week. And if you`re looking for hundreds of recipes that are compatible with your FoodMover, become a member of my Clubhouse. You`ll find recipes that have been tasted and tested in my loving kitchen! My hat`s off to all you chefs! Love,
