Guest guest
http://richardsimmons.com/messageoftheday.php 's Daily Message Wednesday January 25, 2006 HOUSEBOUND I`m so sad and frustrated today, and you know, that`s not like me. So far this year, I have gotten more emails from those people who have gained so much weight that they are now housebound. That means these individuals spend their days and nights in bed. They cannot walk, and the room they live in is their world. At the beginning of my crusade, I would get some correspondence from many who were housebound, but lately, I`ve been getting 30-40 a week! How does someone get themselves in this situation? In many ways, this process of gaining a tremendous amount of weight could have started with some medical problems that didn`t get better. and the other problem is suffering from depression. And as you know, depression can cause obesity quicker than anything. One lady I`m in contact with lost her husband after a 5-year battle with cancer, and her whole life fell apart. She stopped going out and put on 270 pounds. Another lady I spoke to the other day had one son, and he was killed 3 years ago by a drunken driver. Since then, she has tripled her weight. She lives in a custom made bed in the middle of her living room. Last Sunday on my radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio, I talked with two men I call on a regular basis. One man named Bill is over 600 pounds and is totally bedridden, and the other man, Mark, who is 578 pounds and is suffering so bad with cellulitis in both legs, that he is heading toward a housebound life. I got them both on the line at the same time so they could talk to each other. Bill talked from his heart to Mark, and their conversation is still echoing in my mind. Now I want to know; are you heading in this direction? Are you over 300, 400, or more pounds? Are you having trouble walking and getting up and down from a chair? Are your back and your legs full of pain? Do you spend more time lying around then moving around? Have you stopped going out as much as you used to? In other words, do you not like leaving your home? Do you have thoughts of losing your mobility and ending up a prisoner in your own bedroom? Please listen to me. Do something about changing the course of your life now! Find a doctor that will come and see you and listen to you. In turn, you listen to him. Do whatever it takes to get out of that bed and out of that house. Talk with your family and friends. Tell them you`re ready to fight. That`s right! You`ve got to fight for your life! Know as you read this today that I have known many housebound individuals who are not housebound anymore. I am so worried about some of you. I`m here for you if you need me. Love,
