, Have you just started exercising? How long has it been since you've exercised? If it has been a long time, you can't compare yourself to someone who does it for a living. Start small. Do what you can. Find an exercise video that you can do & feel good about doing it. If you don't do that, you aren't going to keep on doing the exercise. The Walk Away the Pounds videos with Sansone are a great place to start. There is a 1-mile, 18-minute video that is a good place to start. Put that cardio dance blast video away some place for now. Use it as a goal to work toawards. Take it out every now and then and see how much more you can do. A good place to check out workout videos is www.collagevideo.com. They offer a sneak preview of the videos

online. I usually get their catalog, find the videos that interest me and then go online to check them out. I make sure to look at the online video and check out the comments sections for feedback before I order a video. Dacia <>< The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Thanks Amy! I tried to do 's tape not long after I tried the one my husband bought me, but only was able to do 20 minutes worth. I had a LONG response to this and the power went out before I could post it!

It's gonna be a bad day!

Let's see if I remember what I wrote...

Amy said:

>I think Walk Away the Pounds and all of 's tapes are GREAT!!!!

I don't think *all* of 's videos are great for people our size or for

those of any size just starting out. Some of them are just too long or have

such complicated steps that only a well seasoned athlete can complete them

without being ready to collapse or fumble over their own feet.

His early videos, the Sweatin' to the Oldies series, is good for a beginner,

but for a long time the person will have to do the first few songs, then

fast forward through the really fast stuff, then do the last 2 or 3 songs

for a nice 30-40 minute workout.

The first 2 BlastOff videos are great, as is, but the series after that, the

ones that were released with the " cool weights " that leaked all over and

caused most of them to be returned to QVC within a month after they were

released, crept up over the 40-minute mark (I thought the " BlastOff " series

was only going to be 20 minutes, Rich?) plus they had 10 minute toning

sessions tacked on to the end to justify those weights. was planning

on doing a series of 12 of these BlastOff videos, but after those 3 he

pulled them, re-edited them so they eliminated the weights, and were

released as plain BlastOff's, the ones that are now on his web site and

elsewhere, and feature the music of the 60's, 80's, salsa, and a few others.

To an old fuddy duddy like me they're way too fast, the music too loud, the

steps too complicated, and the colors too garish, but a lot of the younger

gals here love them. And they're still 40 or so minutes long.

I have no idea what his new series is like, but at 60 minutes long I'm not

even going to bother buying any to find out.

Videos of his I would recommend for a beginner with difficulties, aside from

the first 3 in the Sweatin' to the Oldies series, are his 2 for the

disabled - Reach for Fitness and Sit and Be Fit. These can be done from a

standing position or a chair, so they're great for people with bum knees and

backs, or just those who can't stand for a long period of time.

My all time favorite video is his orignal video for seniors,

theSilver Foxes one. The speed is just right, the steps are easy enough to

do but still gives a great work-out, and the participants are celebrity

parents, including his own mom, Shirley. I've been doing this one since it

was released in the early 1980's when I was still realtively young, and

already wore out 2 video tapes and have a third in shrink-wrap, and recently

bought the DVD for only $15. If you do get the DVD, ignore the other Silver

Foxes workout on it - isn't in it, doesn't endorse it, and his

choreographer, Dorain Grubman, did *not* choreograph it. " Silver Foxes " is a

name owned by Warner Brothers, not , and they put this together to

capitalize on the popularity of the first video. He has a newer video out

for older adults called Platinum Sweat, but when you see the exercisers

themselves, including a 56 year old professional dancer, just fumbling the

steps or just standing there wondering what to do next even after a week of

rehearsals before the shoot, you know to avoid it.

also has out a bunch of toning videos, as well as spot exercise

videos. Some use gadgets, such as stretchie bands or toning bars - he came

out with a new gadget for each video for a while there. Some of these move

way too fast to be safe, IMHO, and one of them, the toning video that came

with the Slim Away package, even has you grabbing heavy weights (6-10

pounds, if I remember right) from off the floor while standing and bending

over from the waist. That's a sure way to hurt your back, especially if you

have a history of back problems to begin with. I prefer to do my weight

training with hand weights and using a book, thank you.

Now, Sansone is another long story. I adore her videos almost as much

as , maybe even more so in recent years. I still have the original

videos she put out back in the 1980's, when she ws still Tommasso and

had such big hair it made her head look twice its size! Her 1-mile videos (I

have 6) are fantastic for people just starting out or have injuries or

long-term joint or mobility problems. Some of them include hand weights or

stretchie bands for toning. In all the videos she reminds you that if you

can't keep up or find a move too difficult, just skip it and walk in place.

Even with all my arthritis I can easily do the 1-mile, can finish a 2-mile

on good days, but find myself gasping near the end of the 3-mile, so those

are put away for now. My favorite one of hers is also geared towards to

older members among us, her Older Adult Workout. Avoid her older, older

adult one, the 40-Plus Workout. The steps are a bit tricky and it moves way

too fast. It was repackaged a few years ago so it now has a 1990-something

date on it, but it's the same old 40-plus video.

Right now I think I have more video than . But wins

hands-down when it comes to walking tapes. His orignal Take A Walk and Take

a Hike are hilarious at times and are at a good speed. His Broadway and

Around the World get a bit boring near the end when he runs out of things to

say and just starts listing theaters/countries he " passing by. " I bught but

still haven't played the Classical walk yet - maybe today I will. I do hope

to buy his new walking audio cd's in the near future, now that I'm back on

the treadmill.

> And I personally feel that being able to do 10 minutes of the cardio

dance is GREAT!!!

Way more than *I* would be able to do, that's for sure! I'm a klutz with 2

left feet. I fell over the first time I tried tae bo, and still lose my

footing and fumble doing tai chi, something I've been doing for decades!

Keep up the good work, and Don't Give Up!

Don't stop in the middle, when your body is hot and your heart is racing.

You might get dizzy and fall. Do the first few songs, about 15 minutes'

worth, then fast forward to the last few songs, about the 25-minute mark on

my VCR, and continue from there, allowing you to do the cool down. You can

always just go straight to that last song, too, if you felt you've had

enough. Your body needs to gently lower the heart rate and your muscles need

that final stretch to prevent cramping.

I haven't checked into 's latest videos. I only have his first 3 Sweatin' tapes and a couple of his toning tapes. I think I also have a disco dance by him. I enjoy them all... I love the music!! I shouldn't have said ALL were good as I only know the few that I have. But I like and would love to have more of his tapes.

I only have the Walk Away the Pounds by . The 1, 2, and 3 mile tapes. I don't know what else she has available. If I don't have much time, the 1 mile is a great one. The 3 mile really pushes me.

And I have 3 tae bo tapes. They are hard for me, but I push through it and do my best. I'm sure I don't look great doing it... LOL... but I try. I know as the weight comes off I will get better. It is very hard and I'm sore when done. LOL

I had knee surgery several years ago which I wish I would never have done. I was supposed to have the other knee done, but said no way as the knee I had surgery on is far worse than the other one. I know that my weight isn't helping matters, but I'm going to take care of that so hopefully my knees will be better.

I just got the tape by Sansone WALK AND FIRM-Walk for Older Adults. I am 51 so I think that puts me in the OLDER Adults category. It is lower impact than the other one I have ~ WALK AWAY THE POUNDS Power Mile. The only tape I have is the one with Wipe Out and It's My Party... I haven't done it in a long time. I may get it out tonight. Dh told me we are going to join the local gym this next month. Praise God. I love my hubby ~ He has such endurance but physical strength....he is severly lacking in this area. He is like a work horse and can do physical

labor for hours without a break but ask him to lift something...hehehe. It comes from his cushy radio job! hehe pushing the on off button on the microphone and typing in news stories...that's as physical as his job gets. He does alot of walking. He parks downtown and walks to all the city buildings so he has lots of stamina. Something I DON"T have. Funny how we are evenly matched. Anyway. I think I will get video out tonight and do it. Gotta go to

work here in a bit. T.Carl & Amy <acwinston@...> wrote: I haven't checked into 's latest videos. I only have his first 3 Sweatin' tapes and a couple of his toning tapes. Reach for Fitness and Sit and Be Fit. These can be done from astanding position or a chair, so they're great for people with bum knees andbacks, or just those who can't stand for a long period of time.My all time favorite video is his orignal video for seniors, theSilver Foxes one. The speed is just right, the steps are easy enough todo but still gives a great work-out, and the participants are celebrityparents, including his own mom, Shirley. I've been doing this one since itwas released in the early 1980's when I was still realtively young, andalready wore out 2 video tapes and have a third in shrink-wrap, and recentlybought the DVD for only $15. If you do get the DVD, ignore the other SilverFoxes workout on it - isn't in it, doesn't endorse it, and hischoreographer, Dorain Grubman, did *not* choreograph it. "Silver Foxes" is aname owned by Warner Brothers, not , and they put this together

tocapitalize on the popularity of the first video. He has a newer video outfor older adults called Platinum Sweat, but when you see the exercisersthemselves, including a 56 year old professional dancer, just fumbling thesteps or just standing there wondering what to do next even after a week ofrehearsals before the shoot, you know to avoid it. also has out a bunch of toning videos, as well as spot . Some use gadgets, such as stretchie bands or toning bars - he cameout with a new gadget for each video for a while there. Some of these moveway too fast to be safe, IMHO, and one of them, the toning video that camewith the Slim Away package, even has you grabbing heavy weights (6-10pounds, if I remember right) from off the floor while standing and bendingover from the waist. That's a sure way to hurt your back, especially if youhave a history of back problems to begin with. I prefer to do my

weighttraining with hand weights and using a book, thank you. Now, Sansone is another long story. I adore her videos almost as muchas , maybe even more so in recent years. I still have the originalvideos she put out back in the 1980's, when she ws still Tommasso andhad such big hair it made her head look twice its size! Her 1-mile videos (Ihave 6) are fantastic for people just starting out or have injuries orlong-term joint or mobility problems. Some of them include hand weights orstretchie bands for toning. In all the videos she reminds you that if youcan't keep up or find a move too difficult, just skip it and walk in place.Even with all my arthritis I can easily do the 1-mile, can finish a 2-mileon good days, but find myself gasping near the end of the 3-mile, so thoseare put away for now. My favorite one of hers is also geared towards toolder members among us, her Older Adult Workout. Avoid her

older, olderadult one, the 40-Plus Workout. The steps are a bit tricky and it moves waytoo fast. It was repackaged a few years ago so it now has a 1990-somethingdate on it, but it's the same old 40-plus video.Right now I think I have more video than . But winshands-down when it comes to walking tapes. His orignal Take A Walk and Takea Hike are hilarious at times and are at a good speed. His Broadway andAround the World get a bit boring near the end when he runs out of things tosay and just starts listing theaters/countries he "passing by." I bught butstill haven't played the Classical walk yet - maybe today I will. I do hopeto buy his new walking audio cd's in the near future, now that I'm back onthe treadmill.> And I personally feel that being able to do 10 minutes of the cardiodance is GREAT!!!Way more than *I* would be able to do, that's for sure! I'm a klutz with 2left

feet. I fell over the first time I tried tae bo, and still lose myfooting and fumble doing tai chi, something I've been doing for decades!Keep up the good work, and Don't Give Up!Sue in NJ One Day Ata Time, Terasee

good advice.... I guess that would be the same for all videos until you can work up to the whole video... Thanks, T.Sue in NJ <susang3@...> wrote: said:>I tried to do 's tape not long after I tried the one my husbandbought me, but only was able to do 20 minutes worth.Don't stop in the middle, when your body is hot and your heart is racing. You might get dizzy and fall. Do the first few songs, about 15 minutes'worth, then fast forward to the last few songs, about the 25-minute mark onmy VCR, and continue from there, allowing you to do the cool down. You canalways just go straight to that last song, too, if you felt you've hadenough. Your body needs to gently lower the heart rate and your muscles needthat final stretch to prevent

cramping.Sue in NJ One Day Ata Time, Terasee
