Hello and congrats on your decision to do this I had it done a year ago and have lost over 120lbs and it's hard but gets easier so i will pray that all goes well for you and good luck on your journey Tema <screamingpansy@...> wrote: Well, I went to see the surgeon and the nutritionist regarding

the WLS. I have Kaiser and you have to go through many steps and screenings before you get to meet the surgeon. Based on my history with PCO and weight loss programs---and the absence of diabetes, heart disease and other obesity related problems-- I am considered low risk for the RNY procedure. They did stress that this is a tool and not a cure all. What the doc did emphasize is that this will give me a one to three year window to "re-set" my thinking about food and exercise and to allow good habits towards food and exercise to take hold. They want me to lose at least 20 pounds before they will even consider me for surgery. The doc said they had one patient who lost the required 40 pounds, then a week prior to surgery went on an eating binge and gained 9 pounds back---the doc cancelled the surgery. So they do not take this lightly and are very, very serious about their program. If they suspect any major problems, they

will not do the surgery. Ok, so now I have to follow the prescribed plan -- which is 1200 cal a day based on the American Diabetes Association food exchange program. Which I haven't done yet because I have been sick, sick, sick since Christmas. My PCP thinks I may have mono. Which really, really sucks and makes sense ---since I work in a high school and I had mono 18 years ago. I hope not. I have not wanted to eat anything and all I have been doing is eating very small amounts and drinking everything--on the down side---caffeine to stay awake for my kids. Anyways, that is my update... Welcome to all the new gals. This is a great group, good luck and remember baby steps. One day at a time... one meal at a time.... one moment at a time..... And remember your body's goal weight maybe heavier than your goal weight -that is what my doc told me. Keep reaching for your goal CW 224.....GW 150-130 (according to doc, I would like to see 120ish--he said that would be at least 5 days of exercising one hour a day---)

I am surprised that you would be a candidate for the WLS. 224 you lose 20 and you would be at 204 which I thought you needed to lose at least 100 to qualify. And if you dont have any other factors. Just curious what made you start the WLS path.

The PCOS is a qualifying factor, plus the fact that I am only 5 feet tall and my BMI is 37-40 ( I don't remember now). Both my gyn and PCP recommended due to PCOS and after talking to women with PCOS who have had the surgery--I am inclined to think that this may be a good choice.

Sorry forgot about the PCOS. When I read the post I thought there were NO medical conditions. I know a few that have had it and there are mixed opionions. One gal it safed her life because she was near 375 BUT she has had many complications with it. BUT as she said it is better than being dead. Another gal had wonderful results. BUT she could afford the surgery she needed after to get rid of all the excess skin. Read up on Carney because she had it and then had a child so that could help you with what it would be like if you get preggers. I pray as you lose you will get preggers.

,

Thanks for your kind words. My goal is not to get pregnant. My oldest daughter is almost 17 and youngest is almost 13. My goal..... to be able to fit comfortably in all the rides at Disneyland and to walk around the park without having to rest. Odd goal---yes, but a fun one.

Have a great day,

(who's child factory is currently out of order)
