FACE THE NUMBERS

One of the first things that happens to you when you are born is you get

weighed, and as you grow up, the weighing continues. Each time you go to the

doctor`s to get a check up, you have to get on the scale so he can record

your weight in your chart. If you get on the scale and you weigh too much,

your doctor sits you and your parents down and suggests a weight loss

program. In my case, it was hard boiled eggs, grapefruit, dry toast, cottage

cheese, and celery and carrot sticks. What fun. Every week, my father would

march me in the bathroom and say these all too familiar words, " Get on the

scale. " I used to cringe and sometimes cry, but I always had to step on that

platform and face the numbers.

So far this week, I have received so many emails from individuals who don`t

want to get on the scale and see what they weigh. Are you one of the people

that think this way? Well, please don`t! Remember it`s a brand new year, and

I`ve asked you not to bring your phobias into it.

If you`re planning to lose weight this year, you must have a starting

weight. Do you have a bathroom scale? How old is it? If your scale is too

old, maybe it`s time to invest in a new one. At one time, I owned three

scales, and I would get on all of them and choose the numbers that were

lowest. How compulsive is that? Oh, you did that, too? This year, there`ll

be none of that! This year I don`t want you to be obsessed with the scale. I

don`t want you to weigh in several times a day. How often should you really

step on the scale? Once a week should be enough. Pick the same day each week

to weigh in, and get on the scale in the morning. You will always weigh more

in the evening.

This year, I want you to write your weight in your journal. If you are a

Clubhouse member, I`m going to tell you tomorrow all of the wonderful

additions we have made! I would also like to welcome the hundreds of new

members who have already joined so far this month!

Love,
