WHAT TO PAY ATTENTION TO

What do you plan to eat and not eat this year in your quest to be healthy? What foods should you really be careful around? The internet is filled with so much information about the dos and don`ts when it comes to food. I`ve read hundreds of articles, and here`s what they`ve had to say.

Watch your consumption of salt! Salty foods are everywhere! Just read the ingredients on millions of food labels. We`ve all been raised with a salt shaker on the dining room table, and we began shaking it on our food at an early age. Too much salt in the body can be very unhealthy for you and can cause serious problems like high blood pressure.

Watch your consumption of fatty meats! Now that the silly high protein diets are phasing out, everyone now realizes that eating bacon, red meats, and other high fatty meats will cause high cholesterol and possibly heart attacks.

Watch your consumption of animal products, such as whole milk, butter, cheese, and other high fat foods because they can cause similar medical problems.

Watch your consumption of sugar. Like salt, millions of products that we eat on a daily basis contain sugar. From ketchup to cookies to everything in between is loaded with sugar. One of the biggest culprits is, of course, sodas, which is like drinking sugar water. Too much sugar in your system can cause a hike in your triglyceride numbers and for many, diabetes is not far behind.

The brand new research out there warns us to pay close attention to trans fat foods. Starting this month, a list of trans fats, often included in commercial baking and prepared foods to extend their shelf life, will appear on food labels so that consumers will know just how much of this unhealthy fat is in the foods we love. Trans fats, like saturated fats, are also known to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

I know; I know. It all gets so confusing, doesn`t it? Well, it doesn`t really have to be if you`re using your FoodMover to monitor all your portions, because the FoodMover http://members.tripod.com/sue_in_nj/fm.htm figures it all out for you. So pay attention to all the information! I do hope you`re closing your windows today.
