Guest guest
Welcome Kathy, At 5'1 " and 275 pounds I'm seriously obese. I was 285 earlier this summer. I'll try to encourage you and will always wish you the best of luck. I've been a diabetic 2 and high blood pressure sufferer along with fibromyalia and arthritis for several years. You'd think I'd had this weight off years ago, but nooooo . Well, let's just help one another the best we can. hugs from Idaho Dianna
Guest guest
Hey Kathy welcome. I am sure glad you made it out of the fire OK... When you lose everything like that it really makes you know what is important materialistic wise. Nov 1 is a great time for you to start. Do an inventory on yourself? Where you are now weight, measurements, portions, water, exercise, emotions, finances, support system, and then set some goals. In a certain time redo that inventory and you will see changes. NH... Guest guest
> Hello Everyone I am NEW. Wlcome, Kathy! > About 2 yrs ago I jumped fro a fire and > landed on concrete. Ouch! At least you now have an idea of how important exercise is, after working with a physical therapist the past 2 years. If you're still going, let them know you now want to lose weight as well as be able to walk again, and maybe they can give you some exercises to do that will be effective without harming your poor battered body. >I am now above 300 pounds. There are a number of ladies on the list that are in the 300's, so you're not alone. The highest I got as 296 back in 1999, and even though I lost 45 pounds back then I'm too close to that number again for comfort. > So I have purchased quite a few things used . > cookbooks , deal a meal / foodmover etc. You can find a lot of on-line resources on our Links and Files pages. The url should be at the bottom of each message. > I have been reading over everything for about 3 days now. Be sure to check the Text Files of Interest in the Files section for more motivation. >I was recently told I am borderline type 2 diabetic. Don't be too scared about this " diagnosis " based on just one blood test if your reading ws under 120. A few years ago the normal fasting blood sugar levels was between 80 and 120, and it took about 4 readings of a fasting over 140 for a " diabetes " diagnosis. Now they lowered the normal levels down, so people who used to be perfectly healthy are now being labeled as " borderline " or full blown diabetics. People who have had fasting levels betwen 100 and 120 for 30 or more years are now being handed prescriptions for meds that aren't doing a thing for their sugars but are harming them with their side effects. Keep an eye on your blood sugars, maybe ask your doc for a prescription for a glucose meter so you can check it yourself at home, and be sure to eat right and exercise to the best of your abilities, but don't panic over a blood sugar result that even 5 years ago would have been a number diabetics *aimed* for because it was considered normal and healthy. > Maybe someone can give me a swift kick in the buns when I > need it . LOL We occasionally lash each other with wet noodles, too. > Looking forward to blabbing to you all Glad to have you on-board. I've been a bit quiet the past week or so because of my yearly fall sinus infection and now it's gone into a flu or something, but when I'm back to what passes for normal for me you'll see me a lot more.
