As some of you know, I work both full time and part time.My intense

work schedule, daily sleep deprivation, and arthritis does not make

for a happy camper!! But, I manage some of the time to take care of

myself re: exercise, water, meditating, and socializing. As for the

food, I struggle, but never give up the fight!!!!! I know what I need

to do, but once the afternoon and evening comes I simply blow it. I

feel that I'm making a decision each day to sabatouge my efforts, to

choose food over health, to choose immediate gratification over long

term well being , and to soothe myself, drug myself, occupy myself

with food instead of other alternatives. I have 58 years of

experience . Old habits are sooo hard to break.

So today, I exercised for just 20 minutes( simmons video)! Even

that was hard, but I reminded myself that 20 minutes is better than no

minutes! In fact if I exercised every single day for 20 minutes, that

is Something!!!!! So , for today I'm committing to moving this bod, at

least 20 minutes every day. I can certainly use the support of each

and every one of you. I read your posts. I learn; they help me. so

thank you.

Faye,

It sounds like self medications because of your emotions. Is there anything that brings you peace now or gave you peace in the past? Drawing, Painting, Video games, Bubble Baths, Sleep? I've had problems with self medicating myself with food in the past. What I do now is meditate, journal, draw, make blankets and play video games. It keeps me busy so that my hands are not free to put food in my mouth.

I'm so happy that you have made a commitment to exercise! It's going to make you sleep better, it's going to make you feel better, it's going to relax you! So, hang in there and remember that you have a lot of people here rooting for you!cambfaye <cafaye@...> wrote:

Thanks for your reply, catherine.

some things that help me are: meditating, naps, listening to books on

tape( which I haven't been doing lately hmmmm), re visiting knitting,

and exercise. And COMEDY!!! See, I forgot about one of my big dreams:

Writing, directing and performing sketch comedy!!!! you've got my

wheels turning! Thanks.

Thanks again for the support. : )

Actually , my usual claim to fame on this list is my regular

exercise; but lately, weeks go by with only two or three exercise

sessions a week. The big committment today was to exercise daily even

if it's just for 15 minutes! No matter what!

15 or 20 minutes doesn't feel overwhelming

If you are sleep deprived why are you eating at night instead of sleeping?

Can you just go to bed earlier? Recent studies have shown that lack of

sleep can contribute to obesity. I tend to stay up too late because this is

the only quiet time I have after the kids go to bed. Why are you staying up

late? What time do you go to bed? Are you staying up just to have time to

unwind?

If you never give up you will eventually succeed. :)

At least you're being consistent. :) Ok, ok.... not the consistency we

want. You have been in this cycle for a long time. What can you do to

break it? Go for a walk every night before bed? Occupy your hands while

watching TV? Put a padlock on the kitchen door after 8pm? Go to bed

earlier? Get any tempting food out of your house?

We all do this or we wouldn't be on this list. If we could figure out why

we keep eating when we know better we wouldn't be fat.

It's not only something it's a big something. If you exercise 20 min. per

day you'll be healthier even if you're having trouble controlling your

eating. Why can't you document everything you eat? You say you unravel in

the afternoon when you get over 2000 calories but so what. Why not just

keep documenting even if you get to 4000 calories? We've actually talked

about having a goal of 3000 calories (or whatever) a day just to get the

documentation habit in place.

Why, why, why? Do you feel like I'm asking too many questions? :) I would

like to be able to answer the same questions for myself. Why do I do this?

Why can't I do this? Why am I so fat? How much is body and how much is

mind and emotion?

I tend to be on or off. You tend to be somewhat on somewhat off all the

time. Neither plan is getting us where we want to be. How do we change?

I'm going to bed and it's only 10:15! :) Hopefully that will help keep the

hungries away tomorrow.

You haven't told us about the comedy dream. Will we be seeing you on Comedy

Central soon? :)

ann: I stay up to unwind. I sit in my recliner, watch TV

and drift off to sleep. I'm pretty sure that I have sleep apnea. Need

to go for the sleep study, etc. The doc I see re anti depressants

explained that the fact that I am most comfortable in the chair, is

quite indicative of sleep apnea. anyway.A much better plan would be

to head to BED at a decent hour instead of the recliner!

From your mouth to God's ears!!!!

I can

- go to bed instead of stay in recliner

- knit

-get more subliminal tapes ( I have one re: chronic pain, and

it's VERY soothing and helpful!)

- get tempting carbs out of the house

I guess I find it helpful sometimes to just write it down about

how I use food; not with judgement but just a reality check!

True, so true!!!

Thanks for this reminder!!!! Very good point! Thank you. I commit

to do that today even if the calorie count is 5000!!!!!

You don't ask too many questions. When I write a post, I

appreciate your taking time to reply. My constant " half in, half

out " plan is certainly not healthy and confortable for me. I think I

AM changing!!!! but have not taken that giant leap of committment and

faith!

Nope! Stand up isn't my thing. working with a group of people,

writing funny material, directing them to act out my material as I

envision it. That's my thing. Have been doing this informally with

friends and family for years!!!! have taken a couple classes. This is

another area where a giant plunge into the next stage is necessary!

When I'm involved in writing and doing sketch comedy, I'm engrossed,

engaged and I get " away from my self " and compulsive eatinmg

So pursuing this dream is important on many levels.

Thanks again ann for replying.
