So whadda gonna do about it? Start slow - open up one of those Foodmovers and read the booklets. Find out what calorie level you should be at based on your current weight. Start a food journal. Nothing too complex - just keep a record of everything you eat or drink for the next week or 2. Note not just what time you ate it but *why* you ate it - were you hungry or just bored, angry, or in some other emotional state? Did eating that food take care of the problem? Write it all down. After the 2 weeks are up, look over that journal and start planning your meals. If you see you ate out of hunger 2 hours after breakfast, or even skipped breakfast, when making your food plan be sure to plan something to eat at those times. If you saw you loved to eat ice cream while watching tv at night, either make the switch to a low fat sugar free ice cream, or plan your windows so you can have a small amount of real ice cream. To take it even slower, you can just chose to plan one meal a day for the first week, the next week 2 meals, etc. until you're 100% following the Foodmover and closing the windows. Make healthier food choices. Switch to whole grain bread instead of white, chose leaner cuts of meat, use 2% or skim milk instead of half & half or whole milk in your coffee. Eat fruit as snacks instead of candy or baked goods. Drink water instead of soda. Find an activity you enjoy doing for exercise and start doing it. If you like to walk outside, just pop your sneakers on and go for a slow stroll through your neighborhood every day. If you prefer to not be seen sweatin' in public, find an exercise video or just dance around to music indoors. If all you can do is 5 or 10 minutes, that's 5 or 10 minutes *more* than what you're now doing, right? And, of course, everybody's favorite piece of advice - Drink your water! Not only will your body be better hydrated, but drinking water before a meal will keep you from eating too much as your tummy will be filled faster. The journey of a million miles starts with the first step. It's time to take that step. Sue in NJ
