Guest guest
Greetings! I've been lurking for a couple of weeks but the time has come to say hello and introduce myself. I'm Maralee, 50 years old, weighing 327 pounds. I've been married 29 years; have two kids. My son is 24 and married (and lives 3 houses away), and my daughter is 16 (and aspergers/bipolar/social anxiety). I'm a marketing manager for an accelerated adult B.A. degree program at a local private college, and love my job. I'm also a Stampin' Up! demonstrator in my 'spare' time and also very involved at my church. Life is good, life is busy. I'm happy. But I sure wish I could lose some weight and be healthier (get rid of type 2 diabetes) and move better and look better. In my lifetime I've tried 1. calorie dieting and diet pills/shots 2. Weight Watchers (about 10 times) 3. TOPS (about 4 times) 4. carb counting 5. cabbage soup diet 6. OPTIFAST liquid diet (just like Oprah!) 7. diabetic diet 8. exercise only and 'cutting down' etc., etc., etc So the fight continues. I lost the most with Optifast...78 pounds...but in 4 years or so it had all come back. Funny how it keeps finding us after we lose it.... So here I am.....looking for support and motivation again. I am starting a new 12 week support group at church on June 2, leading it with my pastor, called First Steps to Weight Loss. We're talking about the"whys" of overeating, supporting each other, and walking the fitness track together for 30 minutes. And I've lost 8-9 pounds in the last couple of months, so that's encouraging. Glad to be here! Maralee

We have good lives but know that losing weight could only make things better!!! > > So the fight continues. <<<<<<<<<<<<< Wow!!! We all understand completely trying any and all diets/ programs and groups. empasize that word CONTINUES, it's an ongoing life long journey. I guess it's an internal thing, when the right combination of diet, exercise, water and support come together and the light bulb goes off and we " get it " . I have moments, bits and pieces, but am far from " getting it " > > So here I am.....looking for support and motivation again. Wish I could join ( even though I'm Jewish and probably don't live anywhere near you!!!> But, you are exactly on track with forming a support group, combined with exercise!!! Great idea. Guest guest
Welcome Maralee, Most of us have tried many, many ways to lose weight like you have so we can really relate to the frustration. I keep trying and failing but I only have to try one more time than I fail to eventually succeed. Ann currently in failure mode

Guest guest
Welcome Maralee I am Dacia. I am 45 years old. Right now weighing in at 220 lbs. I live in southern Wisconsin with my husband (of almost 22 years) and our two teenage sons. My first steps towards a healthier lifestyle began January of 2003. I was at my highest weight of 270 at that time. What hit me was that I was approaching the age (43) that my maternal grandmother had her first stroke. Decided to make a doctor's appointment -- my blood pressure was in the "stroke" zone and I was pre-diabetic. Both of my parents are diabetic -- so that really wasn't a surprise to me. After a year of trying various things on my own -- the weight just wasn't coming off. My primary care physician referred me to a weight loss specialist. I entered a program called Healthy Image Plus. Has me connected with a physician, a dietitian, an exercise physiologist & a clinical psychologist, if needed. July 1, 2004 I started a medically supervised liquid fast. After 5 months I was down to 215. Woke up one morning and just decided I didn't want to do the liquid fast any longer. During those months I had also been meeting with an exercise physiologist who worked with me to set up an exercise routine that I could build upon. Now that I am eating again -- I am meeting with a dietitian on a monthly basis. I did gain some of the weight back once I started eating again -- but that was expected. Right now, I've decided to put away my bathroom scale. It is kind of depressing. I am focusing on keeping my food diaries & building upon my exercise routine right now. I know what I am doing is healthier for me. Whether or not I lose any more weight, I already have a healthier lifestyle than I did two years ago.
