Hi Angie,

I think some people take a week off between challenges, eat a few

unauthorized foods here and there and take a break from their

workouts. I try not to think of this in terms of challenges; I

really do want to do it for life. I've never entered an official

challenges, and I didn't even take pictures when I did my first

challenge (which I really regret now). I completed three

" challenges " back to back, meaning I was on the program for 9 months,

but really I've been on it for several years with minor lapses here

and there. I really lapsed a few months back, but I'm back on the

wagon, in my ninth week now.

Angie,

Your body needs periodic breaks from heavy weight training. The

frequency depends on the person, but once every 12 weeks is a good

rule of thumb. When I'm on an week off, I do light cardio and fun

things to stay active. I do not take a week off from the eating

plan because there is no reason to- this is my nutrition plan for

life. Like most veterens, I don't measure in challenges anymore-

I've been doing this for 15 months now and still going strong!!

Well, I've decided to start over again today. I'm putting myself on the South Beach diet. I think that's the way to go for me. I went grocery shopping & got some pretty healthy foods. The only bad thing is -- it's so much more expensive to eat healthy. It's almost doubled my weekly grocery bill. Oh well.

I've decided that we're only going to eat out once a week. I don't want to cheat myself of foods that I enjoy. Plus, I do my errands on Thursdays & am always too tired to fix dinner.

I'm also going to start out exercising again. I'm not going to make a plan other than to get 20 to 30 minutes in 5 days a week. I'll rotate between doing a Sansone video, walking the dogs, & doing the exercise bands. I'll just choose what I'm going to do that day based on weather, mood, etc.

I figure today will be a good day to start because I'm going to a spa w/DH's cousins. I'm getting a facial & a make-up make-over. (I've been doing my make-up the same way for about12 or 13 years now.) It'll be kind of like a whole new me. I'm going to give myself a manicure & pedicure this morning. (I have all of the equipment at home for that.) The only thing I'll need to do is get a new 'do. I'm trying to let my bangs grow, so that'll have to wait. Although, I might swing in & get my hair trimmed this afternoon.

Janice—everyone starts again and

again…..thats the

great part of it all…you get a new day to begin again!! And it is such a

shame that the healthy stuff costs so much more. I have 2 kids (one is a 14

year old boy) who I have to feed too. It gets very expensive..but they say it’s

the parents fault kids are obese…well think about hotdogs and fries for

dinner and the cost of fish and vegetables ---big diff in price..

So I am proud of you to make the decision

to get a makeover and start again! Good luck to you

Right now I can't afford healthy eating.. so I am just watching my portions.. The past month has been extremely tough financially for us.. Thats kind of why I stopped posting I figured I'm not eating the things I should so what can I contribute..

The increased food costs for healthy eating is a big adjustment to the budget. I mean when you can buy macaroni & cheese for 4/1$ , now that is a quick and cheap dinner. But alas that will happen no more in my house.

Hi ,

I can certianly understand your $$ problem. Be sure you keep an eye on your portions. Money has been tight for us also. Unexpectdly we had to pay the IRS this year. I have one store here in town that marks down produce. So I have had to make an effort to go the that store on that day to get the bargins. I have been really blessed too. I mean .49 for a head of cauliflower. .49 for a bag of grapes (which I washed and put in the freezer) Keep checking in here even if you don't feel like posting. And keep the faith, thing will improve if you want them too.

Enjoy your weekend

I have started to look at the concept that the money I am spending on healthier eating now, is money I won't have to spend on increased health care costs in the future. Since starting this heallthier lifestyle, I have cut my blood pressure & diabetic meds in half. My goal is to get to where I won't need them at all.

We had originally planned on not putting in a garden this year. Hubby won't be home much this summer and so we weren't sure if we would be able to harvest the produce. But, we have decided to go ahead and plant a garden. Will significantly reduce what we plant --- only those things we know we will use & in limited quantities this year.

I'm also going to be checking out the local farmer's markets around here on a more regular basis this year.Rhonda Bergsten <griffonell1971@...> wrote:

, never, ever feel that you can't post - I'm

not on track but am getting better and that I

attribute to posting again. I can support others,

vent and mentally get my head where it needs to

be. besides out of all the posts you've been

reading is everyone 100%? no this group is about

support. Up until this year money was so tight -

it's not flowing now but better so I understand

where you're coming from. Cutting portions is

easting better!

I used the GTs because the starter I was given seemed to be quite weak and just

wasn't doing it for me.  You do NOT need it for normal brewing with a healthy

scoby and nicely acidic starter.  However, my scobies were weak, my brew was

weak, it was taking much longer to brew than normal (using the same recipe, in

the same temperature and circumstances), so I chose to use the GTs to revive the

brew because it seemed to me that getting more starter from the same person

would yield the same weak strain.  So I put some of my KT into a quart jar,

added 1 16-oz bottle of GT Dave's, splashed in some vinegar, and topped off the

quart with sweet tea.  I then covered it with a towel, same as I do my regular

brew, and ignored it for a few weeks - and got a nice fat scoby and some nicely

acidic KT vinegar to start with.  I then began incorporating those scobies and

that starter in with my previous brews, and now I have much better scobies and

my KT is back to

brewing to the acidity levels that I enjoy in a week or so.

However, if you are getting some new starter from someone, you do NOT need the

GTs.  It's just another way to start fresh if you can't get your hands on some

new scobies and new acidic starter.
