Why do people in cars think it's OK use the shoulder as a turn lane?

I decided to try and ride my bike to the pool - suffice to say, I didn't make

it. I'm at home

now, with a serious case of road rash on one leg thanks to the inconsiderate

driver who

decided to make a right turn into the shoulder that I was sitting in while

waiting to make a

left turn (Vs. trying to make a left turn from the center turn lane on a 4 lane

highway).

And WHY in the world would a subdivision geared towards families w/ kids put the

pool

over in the third of the subdivision that you can't get to without going out on

said farm to

market road/highway?

WHY!

No, but I am *REALLY MAD* I only had that bike a few days! I've ridden it maybe

2-3 times

and BANG. $300 bike, and it's gotta go in the shop. The really sucky part was I

was

thinking of returning it for the 21 speed. Dangit!

I'm figuring on hitting her up for the repairs on the bike and a trip to the

chiropractor.

(God, I'm sore!) Both should be less than her insurance deductable.

It's done here all the time. The NJ State Troopers have a field day on one

particular stretch of the Turnpike handing out tickets to people who do that

near the Holland Tunnel.

Thank goodness you weren't more seriously injured! Did the guy at least stop

after he hit you?

Where my parents are in FL (well, now just my stepmom) there aren't even

sidewalks. Most of them don't, and it's very dangerous to walk there. The

year we lived in that area over a dozen kids were hit by cars on their way

to school in the darkness and many of them died. If you lived 2 miles away

from the school or more, then you were eligible to take the school bus. If

not, you walked, no matter how young you were, so there are kids as young as

5 walking in the darkness to make a 7am class time.

I hope you heal fast, and get yourself a loud horn on that bike to prevent a

" next time. "

she being cooperative?

She stopped, and was honestly more freaked out than me. I had to calm *HER* down

- she

was shaking and crying, and spit up her insurance information without even being

asked. I

think if I'd been any more injured than the road rash I've got, she'd probably

have had a

heart attack right then and there.

Stupid stupid stupid stupid. GAH crud like that makes me mad :(

There won't be a 'next time' as I'm probably not ever going to ride my bike on

that road

again. Even tho only about 2 blocks of the journey to the pool is on that road,

I'll be taking

the car!
